Is this normal? Whenever I use an expression he doesn’t get it at all. He understands it literally and then obviously it doesn’t make sense to him. Also like tonight I was reading a book where the tree was talking and he was like “the tree really spoke”? Didn’t understand that it was just from the imagination.

He does have some speech delay but I’m starting to get concerned about how literal he is.

He’s on the young side to understand that not everything is literal. But it can also be an early sign of a processing disorder. I’d get him evaluated.

He’s been evaluated and is currently working with a speech therapist (and has been in various speech therapies since he’s a baby) and this still isn’t improving.
