Oh wow!! I didn’t realize Rebbetzin Bulka’s program allows for “older” students. Did they make you take the Judaic classes to fulfill the seminary requirements? How long did the program take you? Do they make you travel to Garden City? Which hospitals do they send you to? |
I took most of her Judaic classes since I needed the credits. It was accelerated I think - maybe 2.5 years from scratch? Classes were in Flatbush to start and then all in Garden City. I had clinicals in New York (Mt Sinai, Beth Israel, Sloan Kettering) and at LIJ and Winthrop. I had no job (other then Wife/Mother/Grandmother) while I was in school, though 1 son got engaged and married . It felt brutal while I did it, but the adjustment to becoming a FT working mom at a hospital was just as/if not harder.

Ima Geranium - wow!! Are you in NY? Which school are you in? If you are not in one of the Jewish programs, is the school giving you a hard time with Shabbos/Yom Tov clinicals?

I did a non-accelerated program. It was part time, 8-2 every day, so I was very fortunate. I live OOT. I did not work while I was doing this, but some of my frum classmates did.
I studied everywhere. I taped my classes and listened during carpool, doing laundry, waiting at appointments. I studied late at night. My husband and kids tried to assist. It was tough and some of my neighbors thought I was crazy, but my motto was "failure is not an option" and I did it. I think I set a good example for my kids. It was really demanding and the NCLEX was the most traumatic exam I ever took.

Requires a lot of time and commitment and willingness on the part of your husband and kids to help out, eat sandwiches for supper some days..
Very little lifting involved, but why do you ask? Are you not physically strong? Can you manage 12 hour shifts with a lot of standing/ running around?
I went to beth Israel in NYC but it was years ago.. don't know what programs are available nowadays.
I wonder if a program like touro might suit you better/ be more understanding of frum life..but I don't actually know.
Good luck whatever you decide |
Around what year did you graduate BI?

Accelerated could mean a few things.
Rebbetzin Bulka's is called accelerated because it's a 3 year program. But I think BS to BSN programs (for those with a bachelor's already) are also called accelerated. I think they're 18 months?
