We had at least two ex-members to my recollection who lied throughout. One was not frum but pretended to be, and she did give good advice on secular topics with which she was familiar and most urban frum women are not. She eventually outed herself, crowed that she had a good time pulling the wool over everyone's eyes, and left the site of her own accord.
Another was a frum woman who pretended to be a certain type of professional when she was really in a completely different field and was doing a research paper on frum women's online forums. IDK if she joined for that purpose or got the idea of writing the paper after being here for a while. Either way, people felt seriously betrayed and exploited, especially those who had established a PM correspondence with her and had asked for her guidance based on her (false) claim to being a high-level professional in a certain field.

There are a lot of threads here that have inaccurate information, but I don't think that qualifies as lying. Different people, even from the same community, see things differently. That can create a lot of frustration when you have two people from one group arguing about what they know to be true. I found it confusing in the beginning, but then I realized I am not here to educate everyone about my life and community as I experience it.

I've often wondered about joining a due date club once my baby is born.. I had a difficult pregnancy at one point, and found myself reliving it on the due date thread the next year. I wanted to join to work through it so to speak. But presumed it was against site rules, so I started a different thread about it. But I was really tempted!
