Wake up: 7:25 am. I have 2 kids ages 5 and 3. Get kids ready and onto buses. (I have a girl and a boy so 2 busses)
By 7:55 am both kids are on the bus
8 am- finish getting ready and head to work
9 am- 5 pm- work
Pick up kids, come home, make and serve supper, baths are given Sunday, Tuesday and friday and kids bedtime is at 7:30. (I start the bedtime routine at 7:30 and it takes btwn 10 and 15 minutes to get them settled)
7:45- 8:15- set timer for half hour and clean or fold laundry. I do not do anything else during that time and very rarely get interrupted being that my kids are older and know that mommy cleans after they go to sleep...
8:15- 10- chill time, usually in the bath.
10- 10:15 pm- shower and bed.
I don't have cleaning help and my house is usually relatively clean. My 5 year old helps me clean the basement on Sundays sometimes
All laundry gets washed on Sundays (I only have 2 kids but it's a Lotta laundry)
Grocery shopping happens once a week during lunch break.
Shabbos food gets cooked Friday morning. (I work from home Fridays which is massively helpful)
I have a dishwasher for fleishigs.
I find my life to be pretty chilled. I also don't have a very demanding job and give myself 9 hours to sleep at night. I usually wake up a bit before my alarm clock tho.

7:30 -8 quickly wake up big kids and get little kids dressed. Sit them down with breakfast (cereal and milk nothing that takes time)
8 - 8:15 - while they eat, get myself dressed
8:15-8:30 - put on everyones coats and do any last minute stuff....
8:30 - 9:15 is my "workout" my big kids walk to school themselves (it's nearby) and I walk to work dropping off my two youngest at their daycare and school on the way (so about a 45 minute walk altogether)
9:15-4 work
4-4:45 same as the morning, I walk back picking up my 2 youngest on the way (another 45 minutes of walking exercise).
4:45-5:15 say hello to all the kids, give them a quick snack
5:15-6 - turn on a video for them while I make supper and get some "me" time. Having this time makes my whole night different - I have renewed patience for the kids after.
6:00-6:30 supper
6:30-7:30 bath and bedtime for the little kids
7:30-8:30 H.W and time with for older ones
8:30-9:30 supper for myself and spending some time with dh
9:30-10:30 "me" time
10:30-11:30 cleanup and prep for the next day - kids and my own clothes, make sure all briefcases are packed. (somtimes schmoozing with bigger kids at the same time)
11:30-12 getting ready and going to bed.
I used to spend up to an hour at night working as well, and things where way more difficult and I ended up going to bed later. Now im working at my current job for a while and figured out how to get most of my work done during the work day plus work though some of my lunch break so only very occasionally have to do some work at home bh
In addition I have cleaning help 2xs a week for 4hrs . Also my dh washes the laundry ( and cleaning help folds and puts away ) so thats not something I need to deal with. I don't know how I would manage having to be on top of that... |
Some of you have such long and productive days.
I can't seem to do anything useful after dinner. I just veg out. But don't go to bed until late. Such wasted time which makes me have to cram more into my mornings and time before dinner.
Where do you find the energy?
If I have exercised, worked 7 hours, shopped, made dinner, maybe a bit of cleaning and laundry too.... I am just done for by the time dinner is over. I should be organizing myself for the next day, seeing if kids need homework help, paying some attention to DH, or going to a shiur. But I'm just so wiped that I end up zoning out with internet or a book until I eventually shower and go to bed.
How do I get a 2nd wind? Force myself to stop loafing around for hours in the evening?

Even for part time, you need to be extremely schedule and disciplined. BUT full time is way harder. Please don’t minimize the intense schedules of our full time imas! |
My work day is 9-4 Monday to Thursday, Fridays I work less, 2-5 hours depending on my situation. I do have some flexibility. But I also work from home on Sundays, and usually do some minor assignments from home in the evenings as well. It generally does average out to 40 hours.

I work 8 hours a day m-t and 3 hours on Friday so it's 35 hrs a week but very much full time

So when is bedtime for you? I would love to get up 4 AM and feel so accomplished by 8 AM. But I have trouble sleeping in general and I don't find the rest of my household all that considerate of noise levels so going to bed even at 9 PM seems impossible around here, even though I often feel like I'd like to.

I sometimes take a short nap at 7:30 or 8 pm and get a second wind after that. I end up going to bed later but it's worth it if I get stuff done in the evening instead of vegging out.

Wake up about 6:45. Kids are early risers. Breakfast, dressing everybody, packing lunches, mitzvah notes fills that time
8:30 - 3:30 work
3:30-7:00- dinner prep, play with kids
7:00-8:00- bedtime routine, can take my kids time to fall asleep and need me to lay with them
8:00-9:00- crash time on the couch
9:00-10:00- work
10:00- clean up, laundry etc.
Wish I had energy for exercise or time for davening

I just want to say that you are all amazing!!!!
Wow wow, mi kiamcha Yisroel!!
If you are doing these intense schedules for years on end , wow ,may you have continued strength!!
And for those of you who can't imagine pulling off such schedules... I commend you as well for listening to yourself and living well.
Not an easy feet to keep up good mental health with that amount of pushing through and go go.

amother OP wrote: | and you have kids at home, and you mostly cook dinner for you family (vs. mostly take-out or cereal type dinner) and you daven, and you exercise daily (or most days).....
Would you please share what your typical daily schedule looks like? Starting with when you get up and when you go to bed.
I was a SAHM mom for a long time, with a lot of free time once everyone was in school. I started working p/t the last few years and have enjoyed it and still found time for what I needed to do for myself and my family. Now I have tried my hand at f/t job and feel like I am struggling at everything else. There are only so many hours in a day, so many days in a week. I am looking for insight as to how people fit it all in. I guess also comment as to if you feel you have a schedule that is working for you or if you also feel like you're coming up short.
Thanks in advance for sharing and helping me. |
I do fresh hot dinner every night.
Wake up 7am. Leave to work 8:30am after kids are on bus.
Daven brachos on way to work when I can.
My exercise is a 25 minute walk each way. I also walk around a lot a work.
I wouldn't have time for a real exercise and full time davening. Because in the AM I'm arranging some part of dinner/taking out garbage. When I get home I still have to do dinner, laundry, homework, clean up, spend time, shower, PTAs and all the things.
