You can do the library, some museums are pay by donation. And for at how you can have a picnic lunch I your living room, then have the kids help you bake something special for Shobbos

How old are your kids?
When my kids were younger I took them to a large library that had a really fun section for kids with games and children’s computers.
I think I bought them kiddie size ice cream afterwards.
Depending on the weather, there are many outdoor things that are free.
Some museums are free certain days of the week.
The Staten Island ferry is free and has a large indoor seating area. You feel like you’re indoors - similar to a lounge but there’s a nice view by the window of the ocean.
There’s always visiting someone who your kids would be happy to visit.
For very young kids I’ve given them a few dollars and let them buy whatever they wanted from the dollar store.
Some zoos are free certain days of the week.

Museum of natural history in Manhattan is pay what you wish for NY residents, up to 4 tickets. I think it's 4 tickets per person with valid NY id so if you have 2 adults for example it would probably be 8. Amazing museum for many ages!!

Little kids are happy going grocery shopping with you and being able to pick out a nosh.
They’re happy doing a project at home…
Older kids are obviously harder to please. Especially if their friends are going to Florida and you don’t have money for anything….
I hope that both you and your kids will enjoy the time together- whatever you do.
The years that we didn’t have any money to spend we made a trip out of going to grandparents for shabbos in the next state.
This way they felt like they had a little getaway.
Then we would go bowling and buy pizza. (Even all that was an expense for us…)
The main thing is that we had a nice time together. We bowled with them even though we really didn’t want to. We walked with them on shabbos even though we wanted to take a nap.
One year we went to a science museum. Actually one year we went to a science museum in New Jersey and one year we went to one in queens. They were both hands on and quite a drive from our house so they really felt like they did something.
I think the one in Queens was free.
If the weather warms up there are really nice and fun parks.
I just thought of a great idea! For all ages! Your older kids will love it as well as younger ones. Go to Bell works in New Jersey! You don’t have to spend anything. It’s fun to just walk around. They have free ping pong and foosball. Google it. You will really enjoy! You’re welcome ☺️
