3 year old pooping in pants

My son is toilet trained during the day. He never has accidents.

The thing is, he holds his poop until I put on his nighttime diaper and then goes. Sometimes, he will go in his underwear if he can't hold that long. He knows what he's doing. It's not an accident. He just absolutely does not want to poop in the potty.

I've never had this with other kids. Once they were trained during the day, they also pooped in the potty.

I tried rewards, motivation, reminders, etc but nothing seems to work. He just doesn't want to sit there and go. He's fine with pee. I think maybe because he stands?

Does anyone have a tried and true method to get a toddler to go #2 on the potty?

I had Av ery hard time training dd. Overall, with 1 and 2. Dr suggested letting her watch a video while sitting on the toilet when you recognize she needs to go. It helped her get over her fear a little bit since it happened without her consciously doing it and she saw she’s ok after. But it didn’t help her train, since she wasn’t trying to recognize when she needed to go. It just helped her get past the fear. A Little.

Later on, (when she was 4 1/2 already) when she kept pooping in her parties, I spoke to Her and explained that when she holds it in so long, it will just come out by itself and she’ll have dirty underwear. From now on we will sit on the toilet every day at same time until something comes out. She cried and fought and didnt want to. I forced it, since she was uncomfortable all day. Eventually she came to terms with it and By now she’s the happiest child and totally fine with the whole special bathroom time thing. I read her books, we shmooz. By now she’s a pro and it just takes a few minutes.

There’s a great book called I can’t, I won’t, no way. Dd loved it!

When you see him making, rush him to bathroom and it will go in the toilet and then he'll get over the fear. That's what I ended up doing by my oldest and it worked. You definitely should utilize positive reinforcement as well which I just reread that you do.
