You only get PFL if you have been working for a year. OP started working at 7 months pregnant.
Otherwise people who generally don't work would take a job for 2 months at the end of pregnancy just to be able to get PFL.

What? That doesn't sound legal, to sneak oart of your salary to oay for groceries.

Isn't parsonage payment to a religious leader from the house of worship for housing?

I don’t do pay into grocery account some other teachers do.
Is it legal idk.

It's not legal. And getting paid over 12 months instead of 10 won't save you on taxes because you'll still have the same annual salary.

Yeah, I’m not sure the correct term is being used

Or the school is copycatting the personage idea to maybe take a portion of the salary and put it towards her own kids tuition, so it’s not taxed?

But 12 months vs 10 months makes zero difference. Taxes are on a total annual amount, not by how much one earns in a month

OP might be getting parsonage, not understanding what it is, and the school may have a different pay schedule for it vs salary.
It's not subject to income tax and there are no withholdings but the recipient is on the hook for the full 15-ish% for SS/FICA

You can get parsonage if your husband has smicha.
They need his certificate obviously.

Parsonage is a way to get out of paying taxes, it has nothing to do with getting paid over 10 or 12 months but is officially towards housing so you aren’t taxed income tax. The downside of this is that you don’t get any ss or other benefits that rely on your income like pfl. Also Legally non profits do not have to offer maternity benefits. I will say I find it sickening that Jewish schools that presumably support having large families are incentivizing their very own staff members to go in bc because they cannot afford unpaid maternity leave

No, parsonage is for an employee who works in some religious capacity, not based on her spouse's credentials.

Are you a morning ( lashon kodesh subjects) teacher with a seminary degree? That is a legal way to receive parsonage

I know the legalities, I was being vague as to not go on a tangent but it doesn't have to be teaching necessarily. Other positions in a school or shul can qualify. I have the documentation with legal advice on how to do parsonage properly and review and ask questions on it multiple times a year.
