Is it even legal for my employer to not pay my maternity leave?

I took paid leave for some appointments and didn’t even get paid for that.

I’m not eligible to take FMLA since I’m doing parsonage.

It goes by state not national. What state are you in.

I only got a week paid leave 😞. I work from home so it's def much easier to work, but I meet multiple clients daily on zoom and am not up to it until at least 6 weeks PP...

Yes, I don't think there is any law that employers need to pay maternity leave.

Welcome to the US.
As far as I know they have to give you time for, not pay for it. Obviously can be different in different states.

It is hard, but the con of not being a W-2 employee- or in your case using parsonage so paying less taxes and possibly qualifying for government benefits. Most employers can't pay you for being out for 6 whole weeks especially since they might need to pay a replacement etc.. I guess if that was your only income you would need to save up in advance for maternity leave.

I guess I bee thought about that. And automatically assumed I’d be paid for that.

It’s my first time working since having kids. I used to be a SAHM but we really need another income.

Babies aren't exactly a surprise. When dh was in kollel and I was pregnant we planned in advance and prepared for maternity leave

It’s tough but real. I also need to save up before maternity leave because I don’t get paid during that time. Lots of people I work with come back at before the 6 week mark because it’s just not sustainable to do longer. It’s a sorry state of affairs when everybody knows that this is not healthy and yet it continues.

I never knew this. I wish I knew this before I took leave so we could have saved. We do have savings put away, though not that much

I work in healthcare and they will only give maternity leave if you have been working for a year.
