My 7 year old son loves cookies but he is already overweight and I don't want to feed him more sugar in his body. Because he gets jealous in school I can't make him be the odd one out. I am looking for healthy cookies recipes that are kid friendly and nut free since he is highly allergic to nuts.

Can you sub with maple syrup or coconut sugar?

There is a muffin I make all the time from dinner done. I wonder if you came make it into cookies. Has whole wheat flour, oats, apple sauce, honey and oil. Also chocolate chips.
It might not be the healthiest recipe out there but my kids won't eat it if it's too out of the box and with this it's a little healthier than regular muffins and still tastes good.

Calories make you gain weight.

Some healthy cookies (think dates vs sugar) have more calories than regular cookies.

Just something to keep in mind…

Easiest place to cut is oil…

Oats and whole wheat are heartier and will fill him up quicker. I make the scones from Kosher by Design for teens and 20-something’s. I switch out 2 of the 4 cups of flour for oats, cut the sugar, and use craisins or blueberries instead of chocolate chips. Kids take one for snack every day, it’s basically a granola bar but in cookie form so automatically more exciting

Metabolism is a whole lot more complicated than just calories.
Op rorie has a tahini oatmeal cookie recipe that's nut free in her first cookbook

If you want other healthy nut free flours look into chickpea, cassava, quinoa and coconut flours.

If you Google nut free paleo cookies you'll get a bunch of good options with clean unrefined sweetners and oils.

You can check out www.chocolatecovderedkatie.com

Her recipes are vegan and usually less sweet, using natural sweeteners over plain old white sugar. And most recipes give some degree of choice so they can be made to suit your needs. I've made many of her desserts over the years and they are really yummy and typically easy too.
