There is nothing in Torah Judaism that forbids vaccination.
As for the chillul Hashem, there have been numerous times in history when death, illness and plagues were blamed on the Jews. It was always a pack of lies. In the recent past there was a measles outbreak that actually did originate in Israel and a lot of cases were in heavily Jewish neighborhoods.
I needed treatment at a medical facility. As I and every other patient entered we were asked if we had recently been to israel.
I’m still horrified. They had every right to ask. We have no right to make them have to ask.
If you don’t want to be vaccinated get yourself an exemption. Keep our religion out of it. Care about your fellow Jews. Care about sanctifying Hashem’s name. |
It’s not lying. Many Jews don’t think the flu vaccine is safe. It’s a mitzvah to protect my kid’s health period end of story. We don’t all have to see the risks the same way for it to be legitimate.

The govt mandates it, you need to either vaccinate your kid or give an exemption letter.

it's all or none.
when I requested exemption for flu from Boe they told me don't give us your vaccine records at all and emailed me this text to put my signature on and date.
state of nj for reference
I request a religious exemption, due to, it is against my child’s religion. State Sanitary Code (26;1A-9.1) provides for “exemption for pupils from mandatory immunization if the parent or guardian of the pupil objects thereto in a written statement signed by the parent or guardian upon that the proposed immunization interferes with the free exercise of the pupil’s religious rights.”
I do hereby certify that the proposed immunization interferes with the free exercise of the child’s religious rights. The administration of immunizing agents conflicts with the child’s exercise of religious tenets or practices in that we object to the administration of such agents by injection or orally based upon our religious beliefs.

I gave it for the flu shot only in nj and had no issues with my school or with the govt accepting it.

amother DarkMagenta wrote: | Nuh uh. I object to people using religion as an excuse when the religion totally allows it. Not terribly honest of you, is it? How does that jive with your so-called religiosity? | First of all there are many levels of religion within Judaism. So your way is not necessarily the way everyone holds. With that being clear there are those that hold you can't do a procedure that might have risks (read the vaccine inserts for possible risks) no matter how small the percentage is in order to prevent an illness/disease especially if it's not guaranteed to prevent that illness/disease. So basically my form of Judaism doesn't allow flu vaccines and I'm 100% honest.

my child was in the public school. that's what I was told.
it's possible that private schools can overlook things.
I ended up getting medical exemption for specific vaccines so for medical it's for sure vaccine by vaccine

I don’t care at all if people don’t give the flu vax.
But I do care when people (especially frum) misrepresent Judaism. So please don’t.

I am writing to respectfully inform you that I am unable to receive the flu vaccine due to religious reasons. While my decision is rooted in personal conviction, it is influenced by my understanding of the body and health, which aligns with my faith's teachings on bodily integrity and the cautious use of medical interventions. I have prayerfully considered this matter and believe this decision is in accordance with my spiritual beliefs. Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
[Your Name] |
I don’t think this will be accepted as a valid religious exemption.

For everyone here please know this is not misrepresenting Judaism.
Please do some research on what a religious exemption is. Everyone is entitled to a personal interpretation of their religion, a religious exemption can be for a personal religious belief, does not necessarily mean from the religion as a whole.

Same and the school nurse told me to write that I’m requesting a religious exemption as the child’s mother. No explanations or which religion were necessary.
I only filled it out for the flu vaccine as I’m pro vaccine, and my kid had the flu the week before and pneumonia the month before so I wasn’t going to give him an extra vaccine for no reason especially as he is really anxious about Drs now after his last vaccine appointment a few months ago.

Everyone knows that. But the only way to not vaccinate in some places is by giving a religious exemption.

Is this just in the US that you need to get an exemption?
In Israel and in the UK you can do what you like. No need for any official exemptions. Sounds quite harsh

As per the law in NY, you must give preschool kids a flu vaccine otherwise they can’t be in school. It’s forced.

I think you could have a religious exemption for one or a few vaccines if the reason is something specific to that vaccine (for instance fetal cell line in the vaccines that use that)

If you send to private school in NJ why would you need an exemption for flu?

Thank you to those who provided me with a text. I really appreciate that.
As I wrote in my first post my religious basis is that I'm obligated to take care of my body and based on an extensive report I did on the flu for my biology major in college, I don't believe that giving the vaccine is taking care of my body.
I actually didn't ask for a religious exemption but the school said I have to fill it out (it's for my child and legally she doesn't require the vaccine in a few days based on her age) so already this shows that this vaccine is not so helpful, otherwise they would still require it after her birthday.
I'm not planning to write my religion doesn't allow it.
For those of you who are worried my kids get all vaccines except for flu, covid, and hpv.

It is against my personal religion to believe that doctors are like a g-d. I only believe in 1 g-d and it's not my doctors. It's against my personal religion to believe that my doctor could control the health of my child.
