And to your last point, the risk of segulahs is that they are presented as magic hope. Meaning we know you cried your eyes out to hashem, davened and begged for a yeshuah and it wasn't enough. But....if you write down what you want and tie it to a string and connect it to the menorah, then you might get hashem's attention. Really? Is that hashem's system? And then when it doesn't work (and it doesn't for many) people are discouraged and lose hope.
I really hope that what I'm saying doesn't hurt anyone's feelings. |
I totally get your post.
As for tying something around the menorah, I see it this way: When someone does this, she takes the time to think, what are her deepest desires and she'ifos? And she works on herself the whole year to be the person who is worthy of them, and able to see the small kindnesses on the way and every day nissim. Because those threads about the menorah, e.g., often say, it happened the second year. Or, the first year brought so much other brachah, thank you, Hashem.

And many never get the tefilos answered, no matter what they do.[/quote]
I won't go so far as to say tefilos are not answered, but sometimes the answer is no.
You can daven from here til tomorrow, improve your shmiras mitzvos in many areas and that still does not guarantee that your wishes will be granted. Maybe after 120 we will understand why.

In my mind getting a no means that your tefilot were not answered.
If you were davening for a baby ad gd said no, your tefilos were not answered.

My Take on this:
He created you
He knows what is good for you and for your neshoma
He loves you more then you love yourself
But its so hard when you daven and daven and dont get what you are davening for.
And that's when Emuna, Faith steps in.
Learn it to feel it
