Are there any healthier ones ? My child won’t eat pancake without syrup but I hate giving it because it’s loaded with sugar.

Another vote for maple syrup. It’s just as sweet without the garbage.

I use real maple syrup. Honestly it is still pure sugar but more delicious but I am not sure the taste would be noticed by a child.

What about if you made some kind of cooked fruit to put over the top. Many upscale pancake places will do this with strawberries or blueberries for example.

You can also add fruit to the pancake mix which would make them sweeter and limit the amount of syrup if possible. I use a small amount of syrup when I have pancakes - just enough to spread over the top but not like I am pouring a huge amount of liquid. 🤷‍♀️

Why not maple syrup? That’s the original pancake syrup.

I never actually tasted maple syrup so I wasn’t sure if the taste was similar enough.

Maple syrup is beyond superior.
Even better macerated fruit or apple sauce.

What else can maple syrup be used for?

You could use a low sugar jam like strawberry, raspberry or blueberry.

Maybe add some blueberries or craisins to the pancake batter.

Blend strawberries with sugar. They become syrupy.
Cook blueberries with cornstarch and sugar, it makes a delicious sauce.
Look up other fruit sauces.
Make simple syrup out of brown sugar.

Not sure if this is helpful, because it also has a ton of sugar, but I love honey on my pancakes/waffles.
Maple syrup is great, and is also really useful in cooking a lot of other dishes. (I use it in some dips)

Lots of baked goods use maple syrup as it adds more than just "sweetness".

It is considered autumnal so a lot of the classic autumn stuff like pumpkin pie or muffins or equivalent but there are also cookies and cakes. I made a Bundt cake.

Also it is used in savory recipes. For example butternut squash is often tossed with a maple syrup base with other savory ingredients. It also can be used for squash soup and I have made several chicken dishes with maple syrup as one of the ingredients in the marinade.

My kids like honey. I buy raw honey, it’s got many health benefits, but it’s still sugar.

Date syrup is a healthier alternative to maple syrup and honey. Not sure how it tastes on pancakes though
