It's been a cr*ppy week and I'm not in the mood to cook for Shabbos. Wwyd? Takeout is not an option.

I feel like this all the time Very Happy I don't enjoy cooking.
I do the barebones basics. Take soup out of the freezer. Buy challah or take from the freezer. Make a larger cholent and have some as the main Friday night. Take just a few slices of frozen gefilte fish from the freezer. Make some eggs for egg salad. Buy some dips and drinks. Cut up some fresh veggies and buy a package of cold cuts. Some candy or store bought cake for desserts. That's all.

Do you happen to have a freezer that cooks for you?

Soup and challah don't grow in my freezer. I need to make it for it to get there.

OP, I feel you. It's really hard. Is there anyone who can help, even by making it less boring? Do the peeling, keep you company while you cook, listen to a podcast or audiobook?

BH I have challah in the freezer but the soup won't make itself.

Yes, I usually listen to something while I cook, and I generally love cooking, but I'm really not finding the energy this week.

Plus, were having a family Chanukah party on Sunday, so there's cooking for that too.

Make simple food like roast chicken with potatoes for dinner and cholent and salad for lunch
See if a friend can cook one meal for you and you make one for her
Make something different like Mexican food or dairy etc that feels more fun to you

Part of being a grown-up is acknowledging that sometimes (quite often, in fact) one must do things one has no desire to do, and then going ahead and doing them. Get moving.

L'chaim! Cheers

Same deal.

Basically, what is the easiest meal that you can make? Can your DH cook too? I usually split the cooking with DH and it helps me get it together.

This happens to me. I usually ask my dh to help out and cook something easy

Btw if he says he doesn’t know how, just tell him the instructions. If a girl can do it, so can an adult man (unless he’s really exhausted also)

Or if you have any kids that can help out in the kitchen already I’d ask them

I also don’t love to cook. Chicken is easy, but I would really love a different side dish. If anybody has a quick idea usually make rice or potato cook but would like to try something different. That’s not too hard.

2 easy and yummy side dish ideas:

(I love this one because instead of using fresh apples which you have to peel and slice and canned cranberries it reverses it so you can dump in canned apple (pie filling) and fresh/frozen cranberries. Super easy and yummy

I hate cooking and I feel like this every week unless we have guests, for some reason that motivates me to cook a nice meal.

On a regular week I just do challa (in the freezer I bake once a month or so), sourdough (I don't mind making this for some reason) I stick gefilta loaf in the oven along with some peeled garlic cloves with oil for garlic confit. Chicken soup. My husband does the cholent and usually makes another dip.
This is usually enough for us, skip the main Friday night and have cholent if hungry. If I'm feeling in the mood I make a quick chicken on the bone and potato kugel. I throw together a deli salad shabbos day.

I have weeks like this too. This is what I do:
Buy challah and cake.
Friday night
Precut chicken with simple sauce or spices.
Plain white rice.
Boiled frozen peas with some salt.
Maybe some cubed potatoes with salt and oil.
Lunch: cholent without the homemade kishka I usually make.
Seuda 3: I buy dips and deli or lox. Maybe open a can of chickpeas. I'll cut a couple of veggies right before the meal.

Can anyone send you something?
How many people do you need to cook for?
Do you eat standard Shabbos foods?
Maybe some mothers here can help out.
