Just that nowadays frum Jews also carry guns, and not just in the West apparently.
Somehow, Israeli's carrying guns make sense. About every second week there's an "incident", where a civilian carrying a gun saved the day.
When was the last time, you know of a frum Jew in the US, that had to use his gun? |
Thats a very naive way to look at thing. People want to be prepared, just in case.

But why? So many wear guns. It doesnt have to be a secret.

Not so common the Chareidi community. He's not looking to advertise it. He just wants to be armed to protect us or others if need be (may he never need it).

There is more than one frum Jew in Switzerland who carries a gun or has one in shul. Just FYI.

Does your DH (or you 😜) carry regularly?
If you have a regular safe for legal docs and jewelry, do you have a separate safe for the gun, or same safe? |
My dad has a gun. He has three locked safes- one in his room, one in his office, one in his car. He only carries it to shul. The older kids know. He puts it away the second he gets home.

I know, and I'm very grateful.
But there's a difference between +/- a Minyan of men carrying guns (hidden guns) for the safety of all of us, and whole families practicing shooting in their backyard, just in case...
And as I previously said, what's the likelihood of them using it.
I think the Americans went overboard with their Hishtadlus.
But the beauty of this website, is me learning different perspectives, so please go ahead and tell me why you disagree with me

My sister has some friends who carry. They wear long flowy skirts to hide the leg holster.
Most assume that the long skirts are for tznius. That's true too.

I have heard anecdotal stories of very naive children finding guns lying in the street or in old grandpa's basement. They pick them up, thinking they are a toy and try to pull the trigger. A child who grew up in a house with a gun would never do that.
We start teaching our kids how to shoot at around 10/11, but they are all taught gun safety from very young. My 4yo knows not to ever ever touch.
And by the way, for those who are scared of having a husband carry, if your husband is trained properly and is responsible and has a tight enough holster, there is no way a little kid could somehow get that gun out of the holster.

Many of my neighbors have been carjacked at gun point over the last decade.
I'd actually worry more about terrorism/antisemitic attack in Europe than in USA. In my neighborhood, the main problem is black violence.

Live in Israel. DH has a gun and carries it always. I know how to shoot it too. It is either on my DH body or in the safe. Children are very aware of it.

This probably won't be a popular opinion, but I think the obsession many have with guns has more to do with the Frum world's consumption of right wing media and alignment with the conservative culture than with actual necessary "hishtadlus". I think its just a way to make themselves feel better, as if their is something Jewish to their hobby. Go ahead, enjoy your hobby, but don't blame it on needing to do your hishtadlus. Hkol Kol Yaakov vhayadayim yeday Eisav.
eta: I'm talking about Americans, not Israeli's
