Allergies, eating disorders, ozempic, post or pre surgery. I can go on and on!
Be thankful that you don't understand the struggle! |
Sorry, I didnt mean to trigger anyone. This was obviously meant for informational purposes only.
But if someone can't fulfill the mitzvos for whatever reason, there are various leniencies. I know of someone who got a heter to only eat one donut on the first day and one on the last. (Very yeshivish rav, btw.)
I also heard that when you eat a donut on the first night, you can have in mind to be yotzei the rest of the days with that donut, but ask your own LOR.

Must be I didnt keep my family minhag and I got a direct punishment for it.
By us we are makpid to only do like in de alte heim with plain, custard and jelly or nut filling.
I went otd without getting a hatoras nedorim done and now all the other flavors that I tasted, and mind you, that I just took less than a kezayis from are arguing together in my innards.
Goes to show how 'harb' it is to stray from your minhag.
I mean, it's a different world and the Rabbonim need to up their game and be a bit more flexible.
If they don't give me a heter for this, then I'm just going to do my own thing without asking.
Who knew you needed a Rabbi for this?
My body my choice!

And absolutely no one has to keep a donut in their mouth for longer than 30 seconds on the first night.
There are ladies who are trained to check your mouth for any remnants of donut before going to a chanukah party (to avoid embarrassment) but some people hold that this is not appropriate and mouths should only be checked by a trained Rav if needed using an appropriate cloth (known as bdei chanukah).
And if you take your first bite of donut before hadlakat nerot, this does no count as your donut for that night and you MUST eat another in order to be yotzei the mitzva.
Some are more lenient on this and allow you to only have 1 on the first night and 1 on the last but only if you ask l'hatchila.

amother OP wrote: | I heard of this shita, but my rav holds that size is also good to figure out the volume. You can measure it with a ruler or use the plate method. As usual, don't pasken according to imamother. Ask your LOR.
Regarding whether it only applies to the Holy land, the Shulchan Aruch Harabanit cites a source that says that since the story of Chanuka happened in Eretz Yisroel, mideoraisa, it should apply only there. But miderabanan, since the enemies were from chutz Learetz, we keep the mitzva of donuts out of EY as well. | The real question is how the donuts are measured after the chag....
If your skirts are tight than you must of really been yotza. However if you ate donuts made from dates almonds and ruszhinkes you might need to repeat the full 8 days. Aylor

OP here:
In all seriousness, although this thread turned into a satirical mishmash of fake halachos, I actually started writing it to say that the minhag of donuts is brought down in many early sources. This part is real.
I posted one link that talks about the sources in the OP. Here is another: https://judaism.stackexchange.com/q/110540
According to that, it possibly goes as far back as Yehudis. And I'm sure you can find more sources.
I used to think the only connection is about the oil and eating foods fried in oil. But the minhag of "sufganim" (dough fried in oil) is a real valid minhag. There's also something about the jelly.
Someone mentioned to me today she thought the whole thing was a joke, and I realized that I must have invalidated the beginning when I added all the silly stuff. So I just want to set the record straight that the first paragraph in the OP was actually serious.
Sorry for the confusion.

The shayla "arises" - what if one eats a doughnut but does not have the kavana l'shem matzos mitzvah or better yet does not eat a kzayis - is he yotzei?
