I have a 2 week old baby. My kids are off school this week and I was a little nervous... I usually try and arrange play-dates or buy crafts to occupy them but it's been hectic and hadn't managed to put my head to it.

I got a call from a teacher in my daughters' school. I think she teaches chumash & dikduk to kids who struggle, not sure exactly, she doesn't teach kids in my kids' classes. I was floored! She invited my 2 girls (grades 3 & 5) to her house for a couple of afternooons to do some baking/crafts/ games etc! She said she remembers her days of Chanukah vacay, littles and newborns and wants to help us... My girls were thrilled to go, seems this teacher is a really warm Bubby type and the girls all know her, incl those she doesn't teach.

My girls went today, and she's invited them again on Monday, they can't wait! She 15 kids over, all of whom have had new baby baby siblings recently (incl 2 of her own grandchildren), with a couple of high school girls helping her. They had a great time baking challos, doing crafts and playing fun games!

Just putting it out there! Mrs. X, thank you!

It gives me chizuk actually, more then the fun she gave my kids, and the break she gave me...but the fact that she had her own kids home during school vacation for many years, and now that she doesn't she voluntarily borrows mine!
There's hope for me too to enjoy my kids, not just get by!

Yes I think she's special too, but she just brushes it away, says 'it's just a few hours no big deal'! When I went to pick up my kid her married daughter was there. She said the group brings back warm memories from when she was a kid. When all her friends' Mom were just trying to get through each day, her Mother would plan all sorts of activities & fun! Their house was the place to be for all her friends!

Think that should be my goal..that my kids will grow up saying 'We loved vacation, we had the best fun, my Mom loved doing stuff with us'!
