Last year I got a colored coat just because it was a little cheaper than the black one - and I'm so happy with the color

Does the colored one make you smile?
Is the other coat that you own black and still wearable?
My pink coat is my favorite, but I would never have it as my only (weekday) coat, as there are times a colored coat is absolutely beautiful and times it doesn’t go. If it is an only coat, go black, if you have a black coat as well, go for the one you love.

I've been wearing colored coats for over ten years. I had gold, tan, emerald green and royal blue. I love not wearing a typical black boring coat
I wear my black shabbos coat if I really need a black one to go with my outfit, if it's somewhere that the matching makes a difference.
Sometimes when I wear a brown skirt with a green coat it feels a bit like a forest but I'd rather be colorful than boring

I would like to say go with the teal one. I recently started paying much more attention to colors that look good on me, that bring out my natural beauty/colors. Are you familiar with the concept of personal color palettes? Every individual has a unique palette colors that bring out their natural, inherent beauty. Generally speaking, we are naturally drawn to colors and styles that suit us (of course, that is not a blanket statement and there are exceptions, which I won't go into now). If this teal coat sparks joy for you, and you know it's a color that looks good on you (as one poster mentioned above, teal is actually the color that looks great on most people, across all color palettes/seasons), I'd say go for it!
I myself have tried to shift my wardrobe away from so much black (ok, yes, yes, I still have mostly black skirts, but I now have mostly colors tops, as next to the face is where you really see the difference!). It's so refreshing to see what the right colors can do for you!
All this to say, go for it!!

YOLO. That’s the era I’m in now. Wear the coat in the color you love and enjoy it.
If you really hate it in a few years you’ll find a way to replace it.

Cooor is not just for the young. Go for it. I keep my coats around forever, so if the blue one won’t work, I can try the green or pink one.

G-d save my soul and repent me for not wearing a black coat.
Anyhow, I do love non-black coats and I’ve been eyeing a cute teal one again now that I’m not in shidduchim anymore. Would you share the link? |
Lol, shidduch info on me was that I wore a purple coat in 9th grade. My teacher even used it (pointing to my coat) as an example of something that is not against halacha but still not tznius because it's attractive.

That's horrific! Needless to say, that "teacher" had no business teaching. Sheesh.

Colored coat. Buy what you like. People are so judgemental and closed minded. 30s is still young. A neon pink coat is childish. Not blue or green.

I'm in my late forties, and I refuse to wear black coats or black carry black umbrellas. If its gloomy outside, I want some colour around me.
Right now I have three coats, in different weights. The heaviest, for really cold weather or heavy rain, is burgundy. The medium one, which gets the most wear, is green, and the lightest one, good for in between weather, is teal.
I've learnt from experience to avoid light colours. I had a beautiful ice blue coat, but it showed every speck of dirt, and just wasn't practical. Yellow was even worse, but someone gave it me second hand, so I didnt mind too much. Mid-range or dark colours, I just choose what I like best. They normally last five to seven years.

This is such a heap of garbage to claim purple isn't tzniout.
In order to claim it's not in line with tzniout it needs to be very shiny or distinct neon purple hue or something like that.
The only color which is problematic is bright red and fuchsia AFAIK.

Go for the color you love. I wouldn't do a garish color personally, but anyway it sounds like your color is pretty tame. It'll make you happy and will be way easier to pick off a rack full of black ones at any event.

Personally I never regret buying anything black- especially for basics that I wear all the time.. I used to be more colourful and still am somewhat though have noticed I gravitate more towards neutral colours..

I have a hunter green jacket for winter. I really like it. Looks good on me and matches my black skirt. I actually got it because it was on sale and black was sold out but now I love it and have gotten compliments 🙂

Get what you like. I remember back in university, every single girl had a black pea coat. Mine was charcoal gray and so easy to spot in a pile of black coats. I loved that coat and wore it forever.

A colored coat is in style. Have you learned the parsha lately?

Still not sure lol
I know I’d get compliments on the colored coat but I’m not doing this for compliments
I just want to be happy and enjoy for a while without wanting to replace. And I want a neat polished overall look. I guess I’ll buy one and if I don’t like it I’ll exchange for the other.

From the parsha, I'd understand that a coloured coat can be very risky!
