My baby recently started walking. How many pairs of footwear do I need to buy? Slippers, shoes, boots.... It all adds up!

A new walker gets one pair of shoes in my house they outgrow it so quickly and they are expensive. In the house barefoot is best anyway, unless its cold and then grip socks should do. No need for slippers. No need for boots they arent going trudging through the snow at this age.

For new walkers I get one pair of shoes, sometimes two. If you live in a place where it snows then you can get boots as well.
When I got my baby his first pair of shoes, he wore the same shoes all the time- in the house, out of the house, shabbos/Yom tov, weekday….now he has sneakers and boots and a cute pair of shabbos shoes. I don’t buy from Jewish stores, I buy on sale from the stride rite website.

One good supportive pair. They usually outgrow the first pair with if 6 weeks so it’s a waste to buy more.

For the first pair do you go down to a shoe store to get fit or can I buy online?

Shoe store is preferable. First walkers need to be fit properly.

I personally spend a lot on the first pair as I believe its important for the developing foot/ new walker and go get them fitted eventually I buy online. Babies feet can be hard to fit properly many have that chub or deep instep etc that they eventually outgrow.

1 comfortable good pair of first walker shoes. At home they go barefoot.
After a couple of months when their walk is sturdy & they can run properly, I get a pair of floafers/slippers.

I get fitted and then usually end up buying online because most of the local stores don’t have stride rite shoes.

They need a good fit but not overly supportive The classic first shoe style is too much for most babies. A regular baby needs less support at this age. No slippers because you want them barefoot as often as possible.

First pair (and every pair) should be flexible and shaped to the natural foot. Like from ten little
I did not find anything like that in the Jewish stores

1 pair is plenty.

At some point I got crocs but both my kids were summer walkers. My siblings and I sometimes pass those around.

Boots is only for those actually walking to Morah or grandma. In a stroller they don't need. Try to shop neutral colors so you can pass down without having gender issues. Or borrow and swap with a friend or sibling.
Shabbos shoes come later. Maybe 2 and up. I try to find a good deal or get on Ali.
