I want to buy one exercise machine to put in my basement. Debating between treadmill, bike, elliptical.... I'd love to hear your opinions on which is best to get. It would be for Me, my husband and 3 teens.
Thanks

Treadmill is a better workout than bike.

I like a treadmill. I used to do HIIT runs that were awesome. Be aware that all three can be painfully boring.

This may be just a personal choice question of which machine are you the most likely to use. Even if others are better if you won't end using it, don't buy it. For me I have a exercise bike with handlebars that you can also move and exercise your hands with . I'm in my 50s. The aches and pains are starting... They go away after a vigorous workout using hands and feet on an exercise bike. I have a treadmill that I never use. If I'm going to walk (like I do most days)I'll walk outside.

I personally like treadmill best since it's the hardest to "cheat". Meaning on the bike or elliptical, you can just slow down your pedal when you get tired so it's harder to push yourself. On the treadmill you need to physically push the button to slow down. Or if you slow your pace, you fall off!
That said, I've heard running is really not good for the joints, so technically bike or elliptical is really better for you.

Out-there opinion but what about a rower? Concept 2 is the kind my gym has and people are often selling them used online. It's a really good full-body workout, zero impact, and I find it really meditative. They are lightweight and you can upend them against the wall or in a corner when not in use.
I like the bikes with the arm motion too like another poster said, but I always feel like biking is "work" where rowing is "relaxing" even though the calories/exercise is comparable. Lol.

Treadmill is best for cardio.
Adjustable dumbbells that go up 5-55lbs lbs are the most efficient and versatile for strength training.
Get both (and use them) and you’re a winner.

I really like the treadmill, but if you feel it's not for you then it might not be. I also have a rowing machine which I really like.

I like a bike or a rower. I've had some injuries so a bike is better for me.
