Wwyd?
I am in my 30s. Looking for a winter coat. I have a black faux fur jacket I can wear but looking for a down coat for really cold weather.
I found a coat that comes in a few colors. One is a classic matte black that will go with everything. The other is in my favorite color, a specific shade of blue/green. It’s fun and cute but not sure if I’ll get sick of it after a few years or if I’m too old to wear that color and better off with black.
On the other hand why stick with boring black?
Wwyd
I am somewhat fashion conscious. Not beholden to trends at all (I wore maxi skirts and dresses before they were in, and floral before it was in, and color before it was in!) but I do enjoy fashion and am up to date generally. Not super trendy.

Back in the day when I was 19, I heard back that someone gave shidduch info on me that I’m not a typical girl, a bit weird. Like for example, I wear a teal coat.
G-d save my soul and repent me for not wearing a black coat.
Anyhow, I do love non-black coats and I’ve been eyeing a cute teal one again now that I’m not in shidduchim anymore. Would you share the link?

I go for color. I won't judge you, though I may compliment you.

Definitely the color! And tyh to the amother who was able to avoid what probably would’ve been a disastrous match in such an easy way

I got a hunter green coat and I loved it but sometimes it was inconvenient. For example if I wore a long skirt that totally didn’t match, or if I wanted to run into a simcha quickly and couldn’t blend in. So this time around I might go for black.

I also vote for color. You're old enough to know- does that color suit you? Blue-green tends to be flattering on most people.
Aside from that, I hate black for outerwear for safety reasons. As a pedestrian, brighter colors are much more visible to drivers.

The color suits me, absolutely. I look good in blues and greens. It’s for weekday - I have a neutral colored dressy coat for simchos.
Most of my winter skirts are black, if not black then denim.
I just feel like the colored one might make me feel more immature and the black one might make me feel classier?
It’s from Aritzia for those who asked for the link- their coats come in many gorgeous colors

While I have nothing against color I think the imamothers above just went with the herd mentality of "go against the norm- don't do what everyone is doing" before thinking it through.
-If you love color you probably have a lot of outfits in colors and some probably won't match the coat- will you be okay with that?
-How often do your tastes change in this regard- are you still going to love the color in two years?
-Are you going to be self conscious in color.
As long as this is thought through go with what you like better. But please think it through and make sure you like it. (Unless of course you have 6 coats in your closet and buy a new one every few months- then definitely disregard my advice )

I usually wear out my coats in 2 years anyway.

I'd go for the black unless the blue green in pretty muted, in which case you get a bit of a change without it being constantly there. This is based on you saying that you yourself might get sick of it. I'd get the black and then a scarf in the color you like, plus another in another color you like, and change that up.
I think in general that neutrals arebetter for things you will wear every day. Yes, you have mostly black skirts. If you get a great skirt in a color, will you switchg coats that day?

I'd stick with a black coat out of practicality and make an effort to add more color to my regular clothing.

$2-300 for me is a big investment and planning for it to last more than two years. The coat I’m replacing lasted 5 years at least. It doesn’t get super cold for more than 2-3 months out of the year and I’m in and out of my house, car etc

I’m in my low thirties and my oldest is a boy so my girls will be teens closer to when I’m 40

I like to wear colored clothing so I need a black or tan coat to match. Otherwise when I wear a pink dress the green coat would look silly

I agree with this. I pay $200 for a coat I wear for ten years. I try to keep it neutral enough that it stays in style or close enough. OP, if this is you too, then the black with accessories.

I vote black, or if you want something a little more exciting pick another neutral. 5 years is a long time to wear a teal coat.
