I'm about to train my 3.5 year old.
When I put her to bed, she fights me to not put on her pamper. She says "only babies have a pamper"
She is mostly wet when she wakes up at night.
How do I train her to stay dry?
What worked for u at this age?

Thanks

I buy " big kid pull ups" for at night until they start walking up dry.

One of my kids insisted on not wearing a pamper at night. I would take them to the bathroom every 2-3 hours till I went to sleep then set timers for in middle of the night. It wasn’t easy but eventually the child got used to holding themselves in and was trained for the night.

I don't think there's any way to night train a child who isn't physiologically ready.

I mean, you can take them to the bathroom right before bedtime, limit liquids after dinner, you can even wake them before you go to sleep and walk them to the bathroom.

If doing all of that means that they wake up dry the next morning, then you can remove the diapers. If you're willing to continue doing it every night.

But if you do all of that and they still wake up wet, even though they don't want to, then their body just isn't ready yet. Nothing you can really do about it. I guess pull ups, like the previous poster said, if they think those are more "big-kid-like." That's it.

I've had kids that have night trained at the same time they trained for the daytime. And kids who took five years or more between toilet training and night training. It's not really night training. It's just taking off the diapers when they're no longer necessary because they're waking up dry all/most mornings anyway.

A friend of mine puts her kids to sleep on a few towels. She says that the towels get uncomfortable when wet, and after a few days they start waking up before.

I do the pullups though, I have a family history of late night training and I don't want to make my life difficult.

When their diapers are dry overnight or they wake you to take them to bathroom in middle of the night or in am then then they are ready.
I would tell dc when your diaper is dry for xx amount of days then you can sleep in underwear.
For my earliest this was at 22 months old but usually closer to 3 ir 4yrs

Exactly this. If the kid is the one pushing for it, tell them that we’ll make a chart and once you’re dry in the morning for a whole week straight then you can start wearing underwear at night. I did this with all my kids, waited until they asked for underwear at night and then told them this, and they were all happy with it. No battles, no waking anybody up in middle of the night. Of course you tell them that if they need the bathroom at night to wake a parent for help, but no deliberate planned wakings.
