If Walmart sends something and I’m not thrilled with the quality but I use it anyways. I still ask for a refund because the quality is not what I would’ve picked on my own (mostly produce related).
Is it geneiva to request a refund if I know I’m still gonna use it ?

I think if you're unhappy you can tell them and up to them if they want to refund

Depends on the return policy.

In my opinion, yes. Either return it or keep it, but if you keep it and use it, it's stealing to ask for a refund. If you didn't pay for it, what right do you have to use it?

Very often they don't want a return. It depends. My policy is something like "If this was the last one they had in the store, would I have bought it or gone without?"

If I am not thrilled with the quality, I don't ask for a refund. Recently I ordered a new brand of pickles and I am using them but really don't like them.

It the product is somehow defective then I would ask for a refund. For example, I ordered some items that were in bottles and one smashed and so the contents leaked over the other bottles. I did ask for a refund because although I could use the bottles that had been leaked on, I had to go through the significant hassle of washing them and scraping off labels that had become saturated with food liquid.

I recently bought a new chair from Walmart. After assembling it, we realized that it's highly uncomfortable. We contacted Walmart, they said we need to return it. Dh was upset because he spent an hour putting it together. They said a manager will get back to him. They said we can keep the chair.

Sorry this isn’t in the same category. I mean, how comfortable did you expect a chair from Walmart to be anyways? And if comfort was that important, why wouldn’t you buy something you could try in the store first?

That’s on you, and IMO they had zero reason to let you keep the chair

Side note but how did it take an hour to build??

I have very comfortable chairs from Walmart. Why would you assume all furniture from Walmart is uncomfortable?

An uncomfortable chair I would expect to have to return. Cucumbers that get soft and moldy within 3 days of buying them, I would expect a refund.
What about receiving items you didn’t order, in your order? Am I allowed to just toss them? Or use them?

I never ask for a refund about quality. only if something is spoiled or moldy.

I ask for a refund if I want to return it.
If they say to keep it, that's on them, and of course I use it if it's usable.
Like they sent me peppers that half the pack was bad. I asked for refund, they said to keep it. Of course I use what I can.
They've asked me to return things that were under $1, which they had to pick up from my house. Their choice

For example fruit had mushy spots, eggs had some cracked, veggies were wilted, wrong thing was replaced, the wrong size bottle of floor cleaner which was more per ounce, etc.
so I can still use the item but I wouldn’t have spent the money on it myself

Basically they just tossed it in the cart and didn’t check it. If I was shopping I wouldn’t have spent my money on it

So I should request a refund and then toss it? That’s just wasting.

You are entitled to the refund and you should not waste food. But if this keeps happening you should probably stop ordering produce from them.

But they’re the cheapest and most often it’s good and the only place that I can get delivered from. Maybe one out of every 3 orders something is not good

Actually I have no problem with this. If they wanted, they could have taken the chair back. With food, if you dont like the pickles, why contact Walmart? Contact the pickle manufacturer. If it is fresh produce, that's tough luck. Even if you choose your own, you can cut into a pepper or yam and find it not to your liking. Who thinks they can go back to the store and return it?

But I inspect produce before I buy it. I see if my bananas are mushy, if my mango has spots, if my grapes are not firm. Or I would smell my pineapple to make sure it’s sweet for example
I’m not going back to return, just not buying in the first place. It’s not about taste it’s about quality that’s clearly visible from the outside. It might end up tasting ok, but not what I would’ve paid for

At the shoprite near me, there are a lot of employees tasked with doing the shopping for home delivery. The people using this service know that the employees are not that careful with choosing produce or checking if the carton of eggs contain broken ones. That's on you because you arent going yourself to the store. A lot of items purchased from the grocery store have to be treated delicately or chosen carefully and the employees probably dont have the time to do this. I dont think you have the right to complain. Go yourself to shop or deal with the bruised fruit.
