I’m not going back to return, just not buying in the first place. It’s not about taste it’s about quality that’s clearly visible from the outside. It might end up tasting ok, but not what I would’ve paid for |
You do these things but you cannot expect the employees to do so. You have no idea how many orders they are required to fill per hour. They probably dont have the proper amount of time to spend choosing.

The people using this service know that the employees are not that careful with choosing produce or checking if the carton of eggs contain broken ones. That's on you because you arent going yourself to the store. A lot of items purchased from the grocery store have to be treated delicately or chosen carefully and the employees probably dont have the time to do this. I dont think you have the right to complain. Go yourself to shop or deal with the bruised fruit. |
But isn’t that their job to give quality items?

So it’s wrong to expect good quality and to ask for a refund if it’s not?

And then ppl will wonder why they charge huge fees and hike the prices for delivery services...because they have to cover for all the refunds they give for the overly demanding customers. Obviously if something is spoiled its one thing but if it's not the exact quality you would have chosen then your being ridiculous

The reason I don't understand this is because why do you want this uncomfortable chair taking up room in your home. Either you want it or you don't.

I don’t understand how that’s overly demanding. There is a way to pick fruit, you don’t just take the first one off the shelf. You check eggs before you put them in the cart, etc.

I know how long it takes me to choose produce with no soft spots. I check cartons of eggs for broken ones (I take out each egg individually to do so. I only buy free range so each egg is expensive.) I see how some customers just grab a bunch of bananas or a bag of potatoes and don't check them at all. So maybe people who are careful shoppers are in the minority. If that indeed is the case, you cannot expect the employees to be more careful than the average shopper.

I wonder if the people replying have ever used grocery delivery from Walmart or the like ..
I use Walmart plus multiple times a week and I vote yes within reason. I always choose no substitutions because they will sub with non kosher brands or more expensive size or whatever..but if you send me bananas that are brown or cucumbers that are soft/ moldy yes I will ask for a refund and salvage the good parts. I don't think u can complain of it's not absolutely perfect but if it's objectively bad..
Even when I go to stop n shop in person they have a policy that they will give you back double if produce is bad ..if I open a bag of oranges and some have mold yes I will bring it back. That is their policy

Right but when you are giving for a customer you should make sure the quality is good.
Honestly I’m shocked that this is not a universal thing that people check their stuff

Also, there are definitely times that I think to myself, why did they even bother putting out any of these oranges/avocados/bananas. There is not one here that I would buy. But people are willing to do so, so they offer them for sale. It could very well be that for whatever it is that you ordered - there were no good ones to take.

Basically they just tossed it in the cart and didn’t check it. If I was shopping I wouldn’t have spent my money on it |
In our house, it's perfectly fine to request a refund for cracked eggs or mushy fruit. That's not like the poster above who said she tried a new brand of pickles and didn't like them. That's on her, not the store; she can't ask for a refund. If the store sends you cracked eggs, you can return them. They have the right to tell you they want the eggs back. If they decide you can keep them, you can use the non-cracked ones.
The above said, this isn't a question for imamother. This is a question for your husband or a rav if your husband isn't knowledgeable in this area. On it mamother, you will find ppl passionately arguing both sides; this isn't the place to pasken halacha for you.

I've been shopping for over 30 years. Believe me, it is not universal.

That's different. You will "bring it back." The store can see that they sold something unacceptable. That's not the same thing as calling and telling them. You cannot prove anything that way.

Ok but that’s how they handle online returns. In fact they used to ask me to bring it back some times and I would always chat with them and explain that the reason I shop online is because I don’t have the time to go to the store. So they issued me the refund without the in store return

It still looks pretty in the room. I bought it because I liked it. It wasnt cheap. I was upset because I felt like it should be better quality for the price. I figured we will just spend the money elsewhere and buy a better chair. My husband was annoyed because it was hard to set up. They chose to give us a refund and not take the chair back. It's not like we would have kept it if they denied the request. It would just mean that my dh would have to take it apart and return it.

That is their policy | If 1 in every 3 orders has moldy produce then why would you keep ordering produce? Then you don't have what you need when you need it. I order lots of things but produce isn't one of them.

Not all produce is moldy most of it is fine. I’m saying 1/3 orders has an issue with one or 2 things. And at this stage of my life that’s the most convenient way for me to shop

I'm not saying that OP is picky. I kinda am and would not be happy if someone had to shop for me. During the height of covid, two of us kids shopped for our parents because we didnt want them going to the store unnecessarily, and my mom would say she always gave me the produce order because she trusted me the most to get her what she wanted - but it was somewhat stressful to make sure she would be happy. Produce shopping is not easy. Unless you are going to a high-end market (maybe Kings?) there is always going to be a decent percentage of items that I would never buy. I can pick up a dozen cucumbers before I find one I am happy with. Most people aren't going to do that.

I guess that’s just odd to me- I’m not super picky- but I never thought it would be a thing to just not check fruit. If it has a bad spot you just don’t take it , if you go through a few and they are bad you assume they all are bad.
I guess my question is, is the store proposing to give me good quality produce, or is it just you get what you get kind of thing? What actually do they expect? Every time I chat for a return they say oh we are so sorry we want you to be pleased with the quality
