My husband prefers to name baby girls on shabbos vs a regular morning. He feels that on a regular morning he has to rush out of minyan straight to work and that’s not a way to celebrate a momentous occasion. So barring any YT or other reason, we name on shabbos.

The shabbos following the birth. But if the baby is born from Thursday evening and on, then only the following shabbos.

No real minhag
My first girl was born on a Monday afternoon, named Thursday
Next one was born Friday night and named the next morning (before anyone knew she was born)
Next one born Friday morning, named the next day
Next one born early Tuesday morning, named Thursday morning
Next one born Wednesday morning, named Shabbos morning because we didn't have a name by Thursday
Next one born Sunday morning, named Thursday because we didn't have a name by Monday

Shabbos following the birth, ideally...but our daughter was born prematurely on a Friday afternoon and was intubated in the OR then went straight to the NICU. So her we named the next-next Shabbos.

Our other child is a boy, so that is our only girl-naming experience.

We do a Zeved HaBat and don't name during Torah reading. Custom is to name within 30 days of the baby's birth. I have 6 girls ka"h. All but one were named on day 30 or close to it. Husband is Moroccan and this is our custom.

Wow! What's a zeved habat? How do you refer to the baby for 30 days, just call her "baby?"
