We don't have an official set minhag but we like to do it at the next laining because relatives are eager to hear the name and we don't want to share it before. I also feel like it takes the pressure off having to make a big kiddush or whatever right away. DH will sponsor breakfast at shul and then we can do something bigger later. All of my girls were named on weekdays based on when they were born

We are Bobov and have this minhag but all my girls were born Thursday or Friday so now I’m not sure…

No set minhag, but I like to have the baby named as soon as feasible. First baby, we came home Erev Rosh Chodesh so baby was named the next morning. Second was born Shabbos morning, named at Mincha. (Gave birth within the eruv/walking distance of shul.)

Third girl, born Shabbat, it took longer to settle on a name so she was named the next Shabbat. Based on one or two other replies here, I'm glad to see I'm not alone in struggling to name once the available family names dwindle.

I had boy girl twins and waited until the boy's bris to name the girl.

If I had just a girl I'd probably do the next leining day if we were sorted for names.

My daughter might have the world record on this one. She was named an hour after she was born. It was Shabbos and Yom Tov. In Hadassah Ein Kerem. I was feeling great and we agreed on her name right away, my husband went up to the Shul and they were leining, they gave him an Aliya and he named her.

Wow! What's a zeved habat? How do you refer to the baby for 30 days, just call her "baby?"

I think I refer to her as "the baby" for months on end lol so not having a name has never been an issue. I do like being able to attend feeling good and being awake and not feeling pressured to put a party together especially after my last two which were csections. Zeved means gift so it's like a "gift of a daughter" ceremony. I say bircas hagomel at it, rabbi says something from shir hashirim - some ppl will do it in the shul privately - we mostly have done it at home. There's a 'yehi ratzon' said that may be community dependant. I think diff communities have diff practices. We have always done it in in the evening with a seuda.

Usually the first shabbos.
DD9 was born on shabbos. DH named her 7 hours later at shacharis. He asked the gabbai for the aliya with the name in it. So only SH and the gabbai knew we had a baby!
(Homebirth, regular shul)

Our minhag is not there.
It's the next shabbos after the baby's birth, but at least 3 days must go by. So if a baby is born Thursday vayishlach, she gets a name Shabbos vayishev.

We are satmar where most people name the very first shabbos so even if a girl is born shabbos 4am if her father can walk to shul, he can name her.

My twins born on a Thursday were also named within the hour.
I was born on a Wednesday (Rosh chodesh) got named about two hours later.
