I'm with you. My fancy Designer's Guild set is shredded. At the 7 year mark. I alternated with my others but loved the design and used it the most.

My linens are from closeout connection/ target/walmart/Amazon.
I feel like the linen that's expensive is a bit of a mishigas. Like the princess and the pea. |
nope. I cant sleep on closeout connection linen if you paid me.
I buy $300 sets in linen gardens and the like and they are soft and beautiful and hold up for years if washed properly

I buy from elegant linen at their sales and spend around $300 a set. They sell sheets separately so you can buy as many sets as you want. II find them very smooth and comfortable but the sheets do shred and need to be replaced every few years. I never had sheets last longer-for whoever said her linen lasted 15 years is that the duvet or the sheets too? Anything cheaper is really awful- the bingo are very uncomfortable and the non cotton are not the same.

I saw closeout connection has it and was thinking of getting it

None. Can only sleep on starched cotton. Duvet covers on Amazon and matching neutral color sheets from Target.

Sateen is a type of weave which is 1 yarn under and 3 or 4 yarns over. It gives the fabric it a very smooth silky feel

I'm glad I never had expensive linen. It's probably like any other luxury, once you get used to it it's hard to go back. I'm sure it's super comfortable, but I'm happy that I am not bothered by my cheap Walmart linen.
(We were driving rental cars for an extended period of time, and I got used to adaptive cruise control. Now I can hardly drive without it. I got spoiled that way. I'm just grateful that I never had much fancy chocolate, the simple cheap stuff is still good enough for me!)

Agree. And for master, definitely splurge, I would save money to have a nice set I love getting into bed to.
I love the feeling of nice soft linen...

None of the above.
Target is fine! I happen to love the jersey sheets... so soft and comfy.
I don't like the super smooth sateen type- just not comfortable!!
And I don't like expensive sets. I worry about getting them dirty. What if my period comes unexpectedly? My kid crawls into my bed and gets it gross? Someone throws up on it?

Sateen weave is very soft and smooth
Percale is a different weave that's
officially " coolor" and not as soft. But if you're a generally hot person, percale keeps a cooler temperature.
Whatever you do end up buying, please only get 100% cotton sheets, ive gone to DH family and random people and sweat in beds with the polyester sheets. I started bringing my own...
( my own family is very very aware of 100% cotton bedding only.)

The cheaper sets also crease terribly. |
I must be really hard on my linen.
My very high end sheets shred completely like every 3-4 years. My kallah set duvet and pillow case was coming apart at the seems and shredding by 5 years. About 2 years ago I splurged on a luxurious set of linen. Not manufactured by a frum company. The sheets shredded quickly. The button holes were sewn very poorly. The buttons were cheap.
Sometimes I think I’ve been much happier with the close out connection sets that are $150. I just can’t get for all our beds.

high end Jewish stores are better value than high end non jewish. They are usually made in Europe. I dumped my creased thin pottery barn set really quickly. Elegant linen has a sale in June for half price they have the best sateen linen for the most reasonable price.
That being said, I did find nice sateen sheets on amazon that are lasting great and jersey cotton duvet covers that are heavenly soft (the zipper broke fast tho)

Neither. I don't look for where it comes from, I look for the highest thread count of cotton sateen at the lowest price I can find and I find it at a fraction of that cost and higher thread count. You just have to make sure it says 100% cotton sateen.
I love the feel, the only downside is the cotton sateen in general, plus the higher thread count is on the warmer side if you tend to overheat. Cotton percale is cooler

It also attracts lots of hair and dust particles.

Did you check if your detergent contains optical brighteners?
Dark colors need a different detergent.
