Hi-
What would be appropriate to give a rebbe for Chanukkah in this situation? I think money would be awkward. What gift might be appreciated?

why is it awkward? We pay full tuition and I'm giving $100. My son's rebbi is amazing and I am so grateful!

I'm cannot give $100 to all of my kid's teachers. So, it feels a little silly to give someone $20. I didn't go to frum school growing up and that would have been seen as really tacky. I'm actually just looking for appreciation gift ideas....

Cash is best, even a small amount.

Not tacky at all to give a Rebbi $20. The culture is different in frum schools. If you really don’t want to do cash, go to the local seforim store buy one of the new Rebbe/Rosh Yeshiva biography or some other new book or Sefer and give it with a gift receipt.

Cash is the norm for chanukah gelt. Anything else would stand out

We are OOT as well and I have given anywhere between $18-$50 to Rebbeim for Chanukah, depending on the grade, how much we can afford that year and other factors. It's really fine to give what you can afford, especially if you include a nice personalized note expressing your hakaras hatov. We do give more at the end of the year, but for Chanukah totally fine to give less.
