I have a doona in perfect condition that I like to use as a car seat for the first few months ( then I usually switch to a travel stroller and bigger car seat)

I just checked it and it will be expired in Jan.

Throw out or save (TTC currently)?

Safe to use?

Not safe to use as a carseat.

Can be used to rock your baby in at home etc

Is this just an opinion or are you going on what doona is saying( I kinda feel like they make it expire so we have to by the new one)?

What can degrade in the safety of a carseat?

Supposedly the styrofoam gets less firm and is not able to protect as well in a crash c'v ?
I think all car seats have expiration dates it's just more upsetting when you spent so much on it

All carseats have expiration. foam and plastic isn't as strong after a certain time. chv"s in a crash the plastic will just crack and not protect the child.

I would not use an expired doona for my newborn baby.

I’m due in Jan and we bought a new one.

Ask your Dr.
At the hospital they said you can use for 6 months after (and they’re the most cautious)
My Dr. holds for 2 years after expiration date. And some doctors hold more.

I don’t think anything magical happens after the expiration date, but I wouldn’t use it years later.
If you do wanna get rid of it, target often has a buyback program where they give you a percentage off a new one

Doctors don’t get to hold of anything. This is not religion where you can gather a heter to make yourself feel good. Car seats expire because they don’t keep your kid safe. They become weak and don’t absorb the crash the way they are supposed to. Who risks their kid’s life? What in the world.

It’s very simple if you use an expired seat you are putting your baby at risk of death. The expiration is there for your safety. I don’t even know how Jews contemplate this at all. This is not the place to cut corners period.

The evenflo shyft (similar to doona) is on sale at walmart now for ~220. you can look into that instead of replacing it with another doona

It might or might not be safe. I am inclined to believe that a brand new doona that expired 3 days ago would be safer then a doona used vigorously for 7 months, in and out of the car three times a day. But CHv if there is ever an accident these are the kind of things that insurance companies love to lookout for.

There's listened car seat experts. A doctor doesn't study how car seats work in medical school.

Yes it's probably safe to use it for a few days after expiration until your new one comes but to take it out of storage after it has expired to use for 10 months for your new baby is not safe or responsible

All car seats have an expiration date, nothing to do with doona.

A doona is a car seat they have have an expiration date for a reason.
Throw it out.
Car seats are mostly made of plastic and fabric. Both materials which weaken over time. Temperatures both hot and cold further weaken both these materials.
Your childs life is precious replace the car seat

I am comfortable with using a doona in good condition for a few months after the expiry date, but this is expiring now and you're not even pregnant? Definitely not safe then. Will be used for minimum a year after the expiration then and more like 2 years after which is really not safe. Even 6 months after expiration is pushing it imo.
