Who cares about the "norm"? You do you based on your space, finances, and condition of the clothes. For health reasons, gmachs will usually not accept used underpants-- and if they do, they shouldn't. They do make good dust rags, though.

I know baby undershirts are common to save from one kid to the next. At what age does that stop?
Do I save size 3/4/5? Do I save just undershirts and not underpants? Do I save the matching sets?
Can I give to a Gemach if not? Or do I just toss it?
Really not sure what the norm is with this.
Thanks. |
Undershirts save as long as they are decent to use.
Underwear only if the next kid LOVES them or they are for kids of potty-training age. It's great to have spare old underwear that you can toss instead of clean off when there's a #2 accident.

I pass down underwear but mainly because I live in Israel and order them from the UK, delivery gets expensive.
My oldest DD was going up in underwear size 2-3 sizes each year and I changed by each size, she didn't have accidents and I had a pack of 10, so they still are in great condition and dd3 has been wearing them.
DS 5 just went up a size but recently had alot of constipation skids so for the first time I just threw them out. His other sizes I still have and will use them for the next boy IYH.
I wouldn't take from a gemach though as I don't know who wore them. From my sister I just took for the training stage to have extra for ds but ended up not using them as he learnt within 2 days.

If it's in good condition and clean then I save. Underwear is not cheap. We are on a tight budget. Socks I save if in good condition. There seems to be a lot of people with money on this site today. I do pick purple for anything I don't think I will use again.

For young siblings, yes.
Absolutely not to a gemach, they have enough junk to throw out.

I was extremely grateful to find perfectly good hanes undershirts in my local gemach. I couldn't afford to buy them new. I also pass down from one kid to the next if it's in good condition. So many times they just use it for a drop and they jump to the next size. I'm not talking about holey ones or threadbare.

Bras you may give to gmach. My favorite second hand shop in an expensive area definitely carries bras.

Undershirts keep
Underwear toss (esp for girls—boys I’m not that particular)
