P.S. We pay way more than $60k in tuition. We pay full, which is $13k - $17k a kid.

Something doesn't make sense with your posts. A page or two back you wrote this:

The crazy thing is I am getting tuition breaks! Full would be $12k per kid and I’m paying $10k!

What else was made up in your post?

What

I really wonder what you are trying to say.

Are you implying that you don't live in a frum community, you have subsidized medical, you don't buy clothing, you eat beans and rice for supper? No this is not standard at all in the frum community.

I have medical costs beyond the subsidized, no I don't buy myself clothing often enough. We eat normal food but very calculated so there is no waste, I live in a frum community but none of this is relevant to the point I'm making which if you read all my posts I already said

That's absurd. I can work in NYC and make a very high salary, while living in one of the NJ suburbs where $400K would buy me a nice sized house.

Can you provide some links to these houses? I’d move tmw if I can get a nice sized house for 400k. Even in the Midwest that’s not easy!

OP I am here to tell you that you are RIGHT!!

Dh and I did math on exactly this and $300k is ONLY enough IF the mortgage is paid off. So yes OP, it is not enough.

If mortgage was paid off, $5k would go towards potential trips and savings for wedding, bar mitzvahs and year in Israel costs

I find this post disingenuous. Your original post and your follow up posts were kind of trolling. State your point in your OP and state it truthfully.

Op what kind of field are you in that you know that you have such guaranteed raises?

By the way I appreciate this post. It shows what kind of money we will be needing to live

Big Law

Nothing is guaranteed of course, people can get fired or leave jobs. But it’s a standard salary scale that’s followed by Big Law.

And good luck paying those NJ suburbs tuitions, which are a lot higher than brooklyn\lakewood\monsey.

I love all these posts telling everyone to move OOT because it is irresponsible to buy a house at in town prices.

These are the same people who will throw a fuss at how all the intowners are corrupting their OOT community.

And of course they are way too shortsighted to realize that if everyone decides that is not worth it to live in the tri-state area and decides to move to Minneapolis... well what do you think will happen to the housing market there?

Right this is the part that everyone keeps missing! If we all move to Minneapolis what do you think the housing prices will look like? Not to mention that out jobs are in town.

You mentioned previously that the reason you have savings is because you’ve been at an income level of $300,000 for many years. But you’re just now starting to see the big yearly bumps. What was that income coming from for all those years, it couldn’t have been law

Please please reply with a basic budget showing me how I can afford typical frum life expenses. Why is no one replying with this budget breakdown despite claiming that it’s so obvious??

It doesn't make sense to have both 50k tuition and 60k housing

If the house was bought over 10 years ago then the mortgage would be much cheaper.

Yes many who have bought in past 2 years have high mortgages..those people are hopefully at stage where they are not are not paying 6 tuitions yet.

I can give you a rough breakdown of my family of 7 living on 8k post tax. In Lakewood.

@holly, I just read through your post history (the arrows are so convenient) and I'm so sorry for what you are going through. This thread must have been very hard for you to read.

Is there any way you can get financial or practical help? Maybe you can ask Yael if you can post for us to help you out so you can see your doctor? Is there any way you can get on Medicaid (your income seems low enough). There are so many frum organizations, have you reached out to anybody? Can you get Tomchei Shabbos?

My heart goes out to you and I hope your financial situation improves in the very near future.

Not the point you were trying to make, but the housing market’s already bad in Minneapolis! The average price per square foot here is only $35 less than Lakewood! Our community is leaving for cheaper pastures too.

OP you should really pay off that mortgage in full, tomorrow is never promised

Based on what you’ve written it seems you have the funds for it.
