I'm so sad. I love latkes and I love donuts! Latkes I can do in small amounts as part 9f a meal, but I don't think there's really any way to have donuts...guess I'll just have to feel deprived and miserable. Which is pretty much my life now.

I don’t know how brittle you are, or whether you avoid carnal together or do carb counting? But can you have it for dessert if it is the carbs for your meal? Some people can get away with it. Other people, depending on their blood sugar control, use sliding scale insulin and can give themselves more coverage.

I wouldn’t recommend either, but it might be a quality of life and not letting perfection get in the way of good enough.

I don't take insulin. So far, I can tolerate potatoes in small amounts as part of a high protein meal, but still very limited amounts. At least for now, I haven't really been able to manage any sweets, even as the carbs for the meal. I'm hoping as I get things under control I'll be able to sometimes have a sweet, but right now I can't ☹️

I wasn't a latke or donut eater before so it's not that hard for me. however there are a lot of gourmet treats this time of year and that's hard. the only thing I can say is to have a bite or 2 and call that your carb for the meal.

I found it really helpful to remember that I like my eyes and feet more than food….

Not the same. Zucchini is fine, I like it, it's a perfectly fine and respectable vegetable. But it will never take the place of potatoes and pasta (the other thing everyone suggests it as a replacement for). Sorry, giving up potatoes and pasta has made my life barely worth living and zucchini will never make up for it.

And cauliflower pizza tastes just like cauliflower!! It’s really tough, and most people just don’t get it.

This is what I plan to do. Eat my protein some vegs and then have a bit or two of donut for desssert. One or tops two days of Chanukah. Latkes aren’t even worth it to me.

Latkes you can make with cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, spinach, veggies any of these.

Maybe you can try cheese lakes with almond flour and Splenda

I know you're trying to be helpful but I already explained above, I'm not really interested in alternatives. Latkes are made from potatoes. Things not made from potatoes are not latkes. They just aren't.

I disagree. Taste is in our mind even more than in our mouths and it's all mind over matter.
That doesn't mean you should convince yourself that zuchinni tastes like potato, but you can convince yourself that zuchinni latkes are delicious because they're good for you.
That being said butternut squash latkas have a similar taste and texture to potato latkas.
You can also try half potato and half cauliflower. Yukon golds are lower glycemic than Idaho.

I was going to say that...yukon golds are way less gycemic than idaho ...
Can you try yukon gold latkes (maybe throw in a zuchini or two ) fry it very crisply -the fat and chewing of it helps- and add alot of sour cream - fat helps....
would that work?
plate it beautifully and savor every bite...
also, maybe check out fiber gourmet pasta - it has more fiber than regular protein (and half the calories) it's delicious...REALLY tastes like the real thing!
In a small pot, I saute garlic, fresh mushrooms, zoodled zucchini, cheese, milk, hunts tomato sauce, and add in the cooked pasta....it's heaven! and probably not so high glycemic as much of the meal is vegetables and cheese....assuming you are allowed some carbs this could really work for you! (I am obsessed with pasta also...this was the way I was able to work it into my eating plan...)
