This is a spin off of the recently bumped up thread about the name Rivka. Do you see a trend of certain names and personalities going together?
(I’ll add that my dd Rivka is wonderful and a huge personality, super strong willed and independent. She’s definitely been an adventure to raise.)
In my family there is a name after a certain great grandparent, and all the grandchildren named for him are strong tough go getters (though also difficult when children!). This grandfather managed to save most of his large family during the Holocaust, with smarts bravery and a sharp mind. It is so obvious to his descendants that some of his personality shines through those names for him.
What are your thoughts?

I definitely see similar personalities between relatives who have the same name.

I don't see it.
I do see that families sometimes expect certain people to be a certain way so the child ends up meeting that expectation.

In my case, I noticed it when the kids we’re all in their teens already. Besides, a trait like being aggressive or opinionated for example, is not something you develop because of other people’s expectations.

I happen to agree that “positive belief brings positive self fulfilling prophecies” (and the other way around as well) but I don’t think these two ideas are mutually exclusive.

Definitely is. If you're told you're a certain way your whole life, and treated as if you are, you may very well become that.

I do hear that. I will say on my family, the trend was only noted after three had the same name. Their personalities were all very different but all very strong willed.

So it's 2024 where people raise children to be like that.
Your family has genes to be strong willed.
There is a whole list of other things.
It's not the name.

Nope sorry these were all children raised in the 80s and 90s, when obedience was the norm. Not our current children. It’s my generation of siblings and first cousins.
Yes our family may have genes to be strong willed but these were standouts. You will have to trust me on that. I don’t want to give more info because I know I have friends and family on here, but these men are well known in their respective fields.

I think some of it is anecdotal, I know 4 people with the same name and they are all similar personalities. I also know a different 4 people with the same name and they are also similar personalities. But there are probably many more people out there with the same names and could be totally different to the people I know.

IME: yes, there are traits or features that are brought out by individual names. For that reason, I won't use a name unless I've met several people with the name. I want to know what we're getting into before I sign XD

I think if you are named after someone like a relative not avraham avinu then they tend to have certain personality traits
Example not all rivkas will be generous but all the granddaughters named after savta rivka are so generous they’ll give their shirt off their backs for someone else they’re not all the same but they all have this trademark trait

In my experience, all Rochels are self assured princesses 👸
Think about it, and you'll see it's true.
