If she pulls her out, she probably won’t get a spot in another school- it literally means homeschooling her, which rarely works for high school girls who want to be in school. Bussing would be over an hour each way to either Edison or Passaic or Philly, and idk if those schools even take lakewood girls. And uprooting a family just to switch 1 kids school is a bit nuts. |
I went to Bruriah from Lakewood, as did a bunch of other girls and we all carpooled. It was a little over an hour each way, and none of us minded. We spent the car ride listening to music, napping or studying. The way home we all usually did our homework so we had the rest of the night free. It was actually great
An hour commute is really not as bad as you make it sound, especially compared to a school that is *that* damaging as OP is putting it
I’m sorry OP I understand how tough school situations are, but if you truly believe this school is doing damage to your daughter then you’re the only one responsible to fix it. Giving up because there’s “no other option” is not an excuse

My dd had a classmate who switched into her class in Bais Kaila in 11th grade. I know that it was not an easy process.

Curious how long ago this was, because bruriah has moved to the left in the past 5-10 years.

My point is that it's done. It seems like almost every grade there's at least one transfer. It IS possible.

I don't really want to post this because it doesn't feel nice to say it....but I'll say this. I remember when one of my DD's was in the 8th grade, I was having my "high school" conversation with Mrs. Epstein, principal of Bais Faiga (Lakewood's largest elementary school) (I always had a high school conversation with her - I felt each of my girls deserved their own consideration, even though they ultimately all went to the same high school. It wasn't a given for us, and to all the naysayers, I know plenty of people who did not send all their daughters to the same high school - needs change, and with enough grit and determination sometimes a switch happens - whether mid high school, or for their next child....it's not a given that you are stuck where you are like some are saying.) and in the course of the conversation she told me that there are so many times that a parent speaks to her and desperately wants to get her daughter into a particular, "elite" school with a good name, etc....and sometimes she has tried and pushed and they use their pull...and they get in. And then...they are miserable. Because they didn't stop and find out about the vibe of the school, and whether it's a good fit for their child. Whether their child will actually thrive there.

This happens in all schools. Including bais kaila. It’s not just about elite schools. Sometimes a school is just not a good fit and the kid went for the wrong reasons. Or they thought they did research and it just didn’t work for the kid anyway.

Op I just want to empathize with you. High school can be brutal, and watching our kids go through them, even worse. Hugs.

Even before that, I had one girl from Lakewood in my grade and she got rides with teachers because there was no one else to carpool with all the years we were in school. And she was a wonderful girl but not BY type at all. I can't imagine any girl that wants a BY high school being happy in Bruriah then or now.
