Looking into various hs and really hearing mixed info regarding academics. I see my dd friends in one such “academic hs “ they barely have hw, no reports, and way too much free time on their hands . I spoke to them about their school and they laugh what a joke it really is
Are there any hs in Lakewood where the girls really learn? Where they become critical thinkers? Learn to read from sfarim and understand ? Do comprehensive reports? Are challenged to according to ability? Rewarded for extra academics?
Curious if this even exists? Because I see “reputations “ are meaningless

My daughter is in BBY and it’s a lot of work. But maybe your dds friends are smarter than my dd and it’s too easy for them, I don’t know.
TBH my kids pick up a lot of critical thinking skills from home - we tend to have deep discussions about things. Tons of homework will not necessarily do that. Also the deepest conversations tend to happen when students lure teacher away from the subject matter into what they feel are more interesting discussions.

My girls are above average smart. They go to bais Kaila which is not known to be a very academic high school and they learn a lot!!!
They constantly talk about what I'm they learnt at the shabbos table. My dd in 9th grade decided to study Chumash with her elementary school friend who attends another highschool in Lakewood (that has a reputation of being very academic!) and she had learned way more mefarshim in bais Kaila.
They don't do tons of reports but frankly I really don't see the need.
How much they come home with depends on the kid, not the school!!
When one of my girls complained that she wasn't challenged enough in high school, she's brilliant, principal studied an extra sefer with her one on one!

I don’t find the girls do reports like we did growing up oot. Like we needed multiple sources and citations. Or we had AP subjects.
My dd is in meoros. The Girls learn a lot. Testing is very tough. Rebbetzin Paretsky makes them really think. There isn’t much take home work. But I think they are assuming the girls are reviewing at home on their own.

You also have to realize every girl takes different things from school. Not everyone is serious that doesn’t mean they aren’t teaching critical thinking or working hard as a whole. Every hs has a group of girls who think school is a joke. I am applying this year and I heard it’s a joke and it’s academic about pretty much every school. Every person I spoke to had a totally different outlook.
