My son is really not happy in his current Mesivta. We were told by Rabbanim to take him out and find something new.
My son is a solid frum boy, who needs a lot of warmth and encouragement to succeed. He is smart and can succeed with the right rebbi/yeshiva.
Does anyone know of any yeshivas that would take a boy mid year for 10th grade?
Preferably in the tristate are- NY/NJ.

Can you give us more information why he is not happy in his current mesivta? It will be easier to give targeted information if you give more details. What does he not like about his current place?

I don't want to give too much info as to not "OUT" the yeshiva. But a few of his reasons are...
There is a lot inappropriateness going on
There are no incentives to encourage the boys to learn etc
They learn until late at night-later than most yeshivas-with not too many breaks.

I had a DS who had the same issue in 11th grade. It was so hard getting any place to even meet him and test him, because they're (rightfully) worried that a boy switching mid year can have many issues that they won't know about, and can mess up the class chemistry. We ended up getting him into a place where I had a connection to the Menahel's wife. I'd suggest focusing on places where you or someone who knows you well (e.g. your Rav) has enough pull to get them to give DS a chance.

Maybe one of the chofetz chaim yeshivos? Probably not Queens or Brooklyn but maybe Staten Island (the one moving to Passaic for next year).

Not tri-state area, but kesser torah in Baltimore fits the bill. It is extremely warm. There are incentives for chazara and bein hazmanim learning. I know a boy just switched into the 9th last week and I know a boy who switched pesach time in 11th, so mid year doesn't scare them.
Catch--there is no dorming for 9th and 10th. The yeshiva is not walking distance from the frum community, so you'd need to figure out boarding/transportation. And even 11th and 12th are not in yeshiva every shabbos.

I was going to suggest chofetz chaim in Staten Island as well.
I know many of the rebbeim who taught there, and I think very highly of them. However, I don't know who's still there as it's been a few years since I was last in SI and I've heard the staff has changed.
I also have a cousin who switched in to chofetz chaim in Brooklyn in middle of the year and he really loved it, he stayed for the rest of high school and then one year BM. He switched from a different Brooklyn yeshiva for pretty much those reasons.

Do you know what type the boys are hashkafically? I know the chofetz Chaim type as I have relatives who are in chofetz Chaim yeshivas but I'm not sure they are all like that.
My son does follow sports and watches some clean videos clips that boys pass around. However, he doesn't watch movies and does not have a smartphone.

So chofetz Chaim in Bklyn would not be his type at all. He is more yeshivish.
Is cc Staten island different than Bklyn?

Sounds amazing but we live in the tristate area so we would need a dorm.

My son is in the chofetz chaim in cherry hill. He sounds similar to your son. Has a kosher flip phone, no smart phone. Wears a white shirt everyday. Chofetz chaim is a mix but you will definitely find the more yeshivish boys there (in regards to media, only flip phones, etc). cherry hill has a dorm and the boys come home for shabbos. so could be an option too.

Interesting. Would love to hear more about it. How are the rabbeim and hanhala? Is there warmth and motivation? Is there any inappropriateness going on there?

I'm having the same issue with my 9th grader, but we were told that no solid yeshiva will take him mid-year..so he's muddling through absolutely miserable.

We're very happy at Ohavei Torah in Riverdale BH. Great rebbeim and secular education too, relatively small yeshiva with individual attention. Worth a shot.

Try one of the Chofetz Chaim yeshivos.
You can try Cherry Hill, Monsey or Staten Island.

I’ve heard that the Monsey Chofetz Chaim the boys are more yeshivish. But I would look into all 3 yeshivos.

I think that does sound like he would fit in in chofetz chaim Brooklyn. I think they're more yeshivish than Staten Island?
I hear the Monsey one is also more yeshivish, but I don't know.
