B"H we might have finally found a mesivta for our son. We're in Texas, and the mesivta we're looking at is in the Miami area. How can we get him his Adderall while there? He's too young to drive.

Currently he only needs to see his ADHD doc once every 6 months, and when he needs a new Rx every month, we call the pharmacy to make sure they have it in stock (sometimes multiple pharmacies due to shortages). Then we send an email to the doctor's office to send the prescription to the pharmacy that has it.

We'll obviously be talking with his doctor, but some quick Googling shows that sometimes mail-order pharmacies might work in this situation. Anybody know any reliable ones in Florida? Generic Adderall XR is preferred.

Would you be able to talk to the school about it?

If the school has a dorm/a decent number of boys from out of state, they have dealt with this before. Ask, and if they have bo suggestions, you can ask if you can be put in touch with a prent who does this. In the meantime, train your son to read bottles and look at pills to make sure each time that it is what is expected.

My son has state insurance so we haven't filled here and mail it to him in a different state. You have to train your son to let you know when he is getting low on medication. Also alot of pharmacys now refill 3 months supply ask your doctor. Not sure if this is with ADHD meds as my son has different meds. Also every now and then when medicine is needed urgently they can do a one time override and fill it in a different state. These days they can do the 6 month check in virtually by telehealth or you.can.plan it around the dates he comes home if you book in advance.

When my son was in mesivta out of state, his psychiatrist just sent in the script to the CVS near his mesivta. I know that using the CVS app, I could pay ahead of time. He could either walk over to the CVS and pick it up himself, or he would ask a staff member. Hopefully, the mesivta has a staff member who helps the dorming kids with these types of things.

Miami and the surrounding areas are dense, urban areas. There will likely be a pharmacy within walking distance (CVS, walgreens, winn-dixie, Publix, etc...)

Some states don't accept RXs for controlled substances from out of state providers. I don't believe FL has that rule-- we went to visit my grandparents during the summer of COVID and my sons psychiatrist sent in an RX to Publix from a different state.

Just ship it to him. I've tried to fill adhd meds in a different state from the prescribing doctor and the pharmacy said they weren't legally allowed to fill it.

Each state has different regulations. As I said in my earlier post, I had no problems filling a Rx for an adhd med in Florida from my child's provider in a different state.

Shipping can have its own issues, as USPS and UPS wont ship medications. I've done it a number of times, but you are not really supposed to send medicine in the mail.

Also, tiiming can be an issue, since the meds often run out without a lot of lead time to fill them. It might be a pain to set up at first, but over the course of 4 years, it will likely be less of a hassle to figure out a way to have it filled in Miami.
