Omg I remember looking up the lyrics and then being sightly horrified/ amused to hear this song played at weddings (cool ones) and on Jewish Instagramer's posts.

There's also some instrumental music of non Jewish songs.
I heard on it Celine Dion's my heart will go on.
But I think that's a nice "eidel" song. I have no objection to my kids listening to the tune.

It's marketed as a device that makes it easy for parents to control what's their kids listen to.
You still have to be a parent and set it up for your preference for your kid.
No two parents are going to have the same opinion of what is kosher even in the same community.
It's great that they have a wide selection of Jewish music and you can and block what you don't like.
If you want to monitor exactly what your kid listen to then you have to go back to old fashioned MP3 players and manually load only music that you let them have.
This is a great in between MP3 and Spotify.

There are loads of mainstream Jewish artists who do non Jewish cover songs, you'll probably have to go through songs individually to do that.

Of course it's being marketed as a kosher device! It definitely is better than spotify but I think many parents are naively thinking because it's kosher it's all good. And it's honestly not. There's plenty garbage on it. Parents need to be more aware that it still needs to be monitored.

I actually emailed them about a covered non Jewish song and was told that it passed their mashgiach. whatever that means. I was told I could block the singer if I wanted to. The problem was my child likes the singer but I didn’t want specific songs, but I was told you couldn’t pick specific songs to block.
I then had to explain to my child that there’s kosher songs and Jewish songs and just because it’s kosher doesn’t mean it is Jewish.
At this point, I’m being less strict with what my kids are listening to on it because I have to pick my battles and don’t want to put more restrictions up in their already very limited life. I’m choosing for them to have a kosher outlet even if not always sounding Jewish. Rather it that than actually not appropriate lyrics.
I don’t love it but I feel like this is the best I can do as a parent today.

There's a difference between a cover and a song that uses samples or melodies from a different song.

A cover is performed as written originally, without any substantial changes. It can be a different key or tempo than the original record, but it can't have rewritten lyrics or other major edits.

Anyone can do a cover of any song with only a mechanical license. This type of license doesn't require specific permission from the original artist; the cover artist pays the copyright owner a set amount. (This only covers the song itself, not the sync rights for putting it over video.)

Sampling falls under derivative work, and it requires explicit permission from the original copyright owner.

I I am chassidish and have got the zing MP3, I am very happy with it. It has some slight technical stuff that I would like to improve but on the whole I love it. They also have great playlists and loads of kids CD's

You can absolutely he was more than one device at the same time to listen to different stuff, but each child in your house has to have their own account. Each additional account is five dollars.
