Honestly I go thru it on a frequent basis and block anything I don’t know. It’s a process. But worth it. Then if my kids ask for something, I listen and unblock as needed.

On a different note, how do I search genres? When I try to search just for female singers there is no genre for that.
Does anybody know how to do it?
Also there are no playlists just female, I wish we could create and share playlists like on spotify

Because that blocklist is, like, the embodiment of contemporary Orthodox Jewish culture.

I mean, really, Schlock Rock? " My lulav, it's all shook up"? " Under the chuppah, is where they'll be-e-e-e, and he will say harei at mekudeshet li"? That's objectionable? Wow.

And this is what I love about 24six! I love that I get to decide what I want to listen to according to my own hashkafa and not the app. I love that there are women on there, and I love that there is more than one way to represent frum music, which is reflected on the app.

BH there are options these days for everyone! My family tried Naki a few years ago and it really was not reflective of the needs of my kids or me.

I have no issue with different representation of jewish music. I have an issue with something being marketed to my kids as kosher, and then because I'm not familiar with name joe shmoe my kids are now listening to songs from the greatest showman and Aladdin.

Why don’t you just scroll the singers and block the things that seem not to fit into your hashkafa that you don’t want anyone stumbling across?

Because I don't listen to non jewish music and someone going by the name chesky stein (made up name) doesn't have a little note next to his name telling me he sings non jewish music. I know that I don't know.

I personally downloaded music I know I approve and then disconnected it from the wifi.

I totally get you op.

Its a controversial topic, especially on here, so may be better off asking people irl.

My 12 y o daughter got one for her birthday and Im not very happy about her listening to all this stuff.
Before she had this, she was listening to some non jewish music so Im happy she has this, but yea, some of the songs dont sound jewish at all.

Its toughtl.
But if they wouldnt have all these types of music on, ppl wouldnt be happy.

On a separate note, anyone have an issue with the earphones?
Hers only works if its on loud.

The issue is not everyone has the same standard for what music is kosher.

Some people if it’s not cursing and mentioning anything romantic it’s kosher.
Others only words of tehillim to classical style music are kosher and most people are somewhere in between.

There’s lots of popular mainstream Jewish music with a very intense techno style feel and for some reason to most people that’s totally acceptable, but a folksy style guitar is considered not. I guess we all have to draw our lines.

Also, many people in sheltered communities (myself included) listen to music that is directly taken from inappropriate nonJewish music and don’t even realize it. About fifteen years ago, when Jewish music wasn’t as out there, I went into a pizza shop in Williamsburg with my nonJewish boss. There was music - in Yiddish- playing over the speakers. She said to me “hey! Is that Beyoncé?”
It was a nonJewish tune and music very identifiable but signing something Jewish over it. Most if not all of us have listened to that sort of stuff unknowingly

Multiple imamother threads over the years matching popular Jewish songs back to the nonjewish songs they “borrowed” from (or blatantly ripped off)

Here’s an entire google doc:

I don’t have a 246 but does it have Israeli singers?
There’s a huge difference between Ishay Ribo who’s perfectly fine and like Omer Adam, who sings love songs

It's not about objectionable.
music is the language of the soul.
it doesn't mean other types or styles are bad, if people want to guide what types or styles their kids enjoy and listen to.....

Shulem Lemmer is an example of a frum singer that sings secular songs as well as Jewish songs.
So you need to explain what you don't want your kids to listen to.

My kids have found all sorts of singers I never heard of that sound rocky/secular.

They sing all kinds of songs yearning to be close to Hashem.

I'm so happy they are finding music that speaks to them that's kosher. Many of their friends listen to secular music.

Obviously I give them more freedom to choose than you, and that's our parenting style.

But good luck finding all of these singers.

From what I understand they make sure they feature only frum singers.

I wanna just say that I once reached out to them about a song my kids were listening to that sounded like a love song sung by one of these Jewish groups during sefira and they responded immediately that they have a mahgiach go thru the songs and he must’ve missed it. They promptly removed it.

So…

I’m not saying every single family across the broad spectrum will be okay with every single song but I feel totally comfortable with my kids listening to it.

Op, maybe see if you can block any songs with English words. This will easily knock off many songs you might find questionable (but you will also lose many great songs). It might be worth it…

They onstan2tly post weddings with "DJs" using blatantly filthy non-jewish songs. I don't call that kosher. Maybe their mashgiach never heard off Sam Smith's bodyshop song, but I work in an environment where I unfortunately do and there's no wY to miss it

I think they can very simply mark songs as cover songs if they're cover songs, and then indicate whether the original is on the platform is not. "Cover of song not featured on 24Six" is a good enough proxy for "not originally a Jewish song," though there are exceptions.
