It's likely a virus on top of the UTI. Have had similar with kids in the past. Did bloodwork and nose swabs etc I remember it coming back positive for some virus but can't remember what.

You’re not crazy you’re a mom. We worry and it’s okay. Such high fever for a week is definitely not normal. Could it be that this medication or not the right one for the uti? Did try culture the urine?

Refuah shelaima I hope you find clarity quickly!!

He claims it's this metapneumovirus but he also agrees that it shouldn't take so long

Please insist on checking for mono and Epstein Barr, the UTI may be secondary and brought on by the mono. I had similar with my child and the anxiety of the unknown is so hard. please insist and refua sheleima

Don't ignore it. Try to get to the bottom of it. There are viruses (for example Kawasaki Disease) that can cause high fever that should be dealt with ASAP.

My 3 biggest concerns are her fever, no appetite, and the blood in her urine that was detected by her first uti. 2nd one didn't show it. But I can't shake off these 3 symptoms.

If you suspect anything kidney related then motrin can be damaging. Stick to Tylenol for now.
Also very important that your child takes a probiotic with the antibiotic. My son ended up seriously ill from damage caused by antibiotics.
Wishing your son a Refua Shleima!

Ask your doctor to do bloodwork or to change the medication.
You are tour child's advocate and if you sense something is wrong be pushy if you have to.

OP you don't have to be too worried about waiting if it's kidney reflux, it's something that needs checking but not immediately. I don't even think they do it whilst she has a UTI. By us we were in a top hospital and they wanted her to be on antibiotics for 4 months and then do the kidney test. It won't be effecting the fever it will be the cause of the UTI.

The most important is having a urine culture done. The most likely case is that she is having the wrong antibiotics and of course it isn't going to help. ER will do a catheter if she isn't willing to make in a container but it's more likely to traumatise her more. (It could be for the culture they will anyways want to do it)

HMPV is a nasty NASTY virus. Worse than influenza in my experience…
So yes, can totally still be febrile from that. But of course you see your dc and if symptoms point to an unresolved UTI, then you need to get the proper abx. Was a sample sent to the lab for culture & sensitivity?

I guess I'm wrong. I have a kid on bactrim since march and he still gets sick. I guess he gets hit with viruses as opposed to bacteria

Is it ppx?

I personally would stay away from Columbia. Their ER has an exceptionally long wait

I wouldn't go tonight. I would go tomorrow. Fever is not budging from close to 103. Any Manhattan urgent cares affiliated with a great hospital?

ER is there to save a life. Since your child is not at that stage, they probably won’t do anything new. I would go to a different doctor or demand more testing for the current doctor. How do they even explain what’s going on?

What happens when your pediatrician isn't taking you too seriously? Is it normal thing to do to just check into an er to get answers?
DC is not feeling well on and off for over 3 weeks. Right now kid has a 102 fever for close to week that's not budging. Uti is positive but it's almost a week on meds. 2nd one in 3 weeks.
I feel like going to a Manhattan er checking in and not leaving until I have answers. Am I crazy or do I need a psychiatrist?

You're not crazy, you're smart and responsible. DO IT.

Good luck and refua shleima to your kid. Heart

P.S. - That's probably what my pediatrician would tell me to do.

ER is there to admit patients who need urgent testing so that they can get everything they need quickly and in one place, with a team of experts who can look over the results on the spot.
OP's child needs a diagnosis now, not in a month from now, and to do all the necessary tests at regular clinics can take a long time.
Also OP's child is at risk, now, of further deterioration, so the safest place is in the ER where all necessary equipment is on hand, and all necessary specialists are on hand, to make split-second decisions and attend to anything necessary within five or ten minutes, if needed ch"v.

These are very serious symptoms when put together.
Second culture didn't show blood or didn't show a UTI? If the latter, then the situation is even more serious. If the former, maybe she's on the mend but I'd still go in.

The rapid showed a very negative result. The overnight came back positive. The rapid from what I understood looks for blood in the urine too. It was not sent to a lab. They do the overnight themselves.

Regarding the uti, the only symptom she currently has is the fever. But the dr told me the fever and loss of appetite now, can be from the HMPV virus, and I'm not comfortable with that.
Frequent urination, pain, color all that is gone.

Rapids are notorious for being false. I would trust the overnight over the rapid.

Your doctor is right, it could be from the HMPV virus, but it could be from a lot of other things, too, and you need to definitively rule them out. Don't tell the ER what your doctor said about HMPV, just tell the absolute facts of what is happening and say you want everything ruled out because something isn't right and she needs the right treatment before she deteriorates ch"v.

I feel bad that you are in the US, the whole battery of tests is going to hurt your pocket...
