.....DONT shop sales
shop what you need, when you need it, keep a proper list.
the best black friday deals are the ones you dont buy....
also shop the grocery with a list, no add ons |
Thank you for saying this because I felt so silly that I barely got anything during these sales, just couldn't think of things I needed!

Best hack:
When you have the urge to buy something… let it pass! Don’t get it!
If it’s something you really need (vs something you want/ would love to have) it will keep coming back up and when it’s very urgent, then you get it.

When I'm cooking and baking a lot in disposable pans (let's say for multiple days of yom tov) I reuse them by lining with a piece of foil for the first use(s) for solid food, then the final use is for liquid. Ex: I roast a bunch of different veggies on foil in multiple pans, then store them all in one pan. remove the foil, and use the pans for a roast or for chicken thighs. Or the first use is for challah, etc. |

Wow great tips!
I learned to sew. This way I can shop sales for the kids at the end of season for the following year. I always size up so I can just take in.
Kosher food banks are great, not sure if you have those where you live.
I second walmart+ - a time saver and I don't buy anything I don't need.
But even with these hacks, when we made a budget there was a nice red number at the bottom of the spreadsheet.
I'm currently brainstorming more ways to bring in income, as saving here and there ain't helping.

If you learned to sew maybe take some sewing jobs for extra money

lol my mother just suggested that to me, too!
The problem is that my work is not professional enough. I'm totally ok with it for my own kids' clothes, but to take in sewing jobs means a lot more time/effort in getting it done perfectly.

In my community there is a kosher food bank/pantry. It has food that stores are giving away/will be expiring soon.

Are a lot of people making money on the side doing things like that? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm genuinely asking.

My husband is in chinuch and has a side business in something similar to the above (as in running a kids activity, don't want to be too specific) and he makes close to $40k a year doing it.

When DH was in kollel full time and I was getting my doctorate, he had a side business where he made video montages for Simcha’s, dinners, etc. and I gave piano lessons. That was basically how we got by, maybe tapping into your similar skills and talents can bring in extra income as well?

Definitely pay down the debt as fast as possible and make that a priority. They’re taking your hard earned income. Shop around for insurance (we saved $750/yr) and change phone plans to something like mint mobile. Ask schools if they can give more of a tuition break if possible.
Next, someone’s got to make more income. Dh take on another job or you need to. Lots of things you can do in your spare time. Also Depending on how old your kids are, they can get a job and pay for their own stuff.
