I'm pretty sure it's not right to embarass her by discussing it online. |
I wonder why OP felt a need to start this thread?

I don't know which location this was in, but for all the people who don't live near a Bingo: the one in Brooklyn has VERY wide aisles. Totally possible for someone to park themselves strategically and not block traffic. And also stand so that they're not blocking all of a given item.
(I will be DLZ that the store name was mentioned so people should realize the location seemed odd to OP and that the woman in question was not blocking anyone's shopping. Otherwise, really no reason to be specific, especially mentioning the day as well as the store)

The men spread out in the entire aisle in Brooklyn Bingo and no one can get ANYTHING. ONE woman blocking ONE cereal for the few minutes it takes her to daven her Shemona Esrei (shorter than the men because she doesn't do chazaras hashatz) isn't that big a deal.

I was thinking about this thread on the bus this morning.
It's quite normal for women to daven on the bus, especially on longer, intercity journeys. Given that it's more discreet than in the middle of the supermarket, would people still consider that not tzanua?
Sitting in front of me was a man. Assume he had a good reason why he wasn't davening with a minyan. A few minutes into the journey, he got up, put on tallis and tefillin, and started davening. Including standing in the aisle whenever standing was appropriate, and turning round to face the back of the bus (towards Yerushalayim) for Shmonah Esrei. Would this be considered untzanua, or is it OK because he is a male?
What about saying Tehillim? On the bus home this afternoon, the woman sitting next to me was saying Tehillim aloud. Not for the entire bus to hear, but but so that I, and probably the people sitting immediately behind and in front could hear clearly.

I hope that OP is actually the woman who was davening, and made the thread because she felt self conscious and wanted to see if people would think it was weird. If so, I hope that she saw that lots of women think she is doing something positive, and she got some chizuk, notwithstanding the detractors.

Never heard it would be an issue to pray on a bus or reciting tehilim.

The woman saying Tehillim next to me was actually pretty irritating, but she probably thought I needed the spiritual lift, because I had a smartphone. đ
But a lot of people upthread said they felt or had learnt that it wasn't tzanua for a woman to daven in public. So I wondered what they thought about public but mire discreet situations. Or individual men davening in a very public way.

If a hundred ladies didn't feel the need to respond to such a thread it wouldn't be 6 pages long so obviously it interest some ppl!!
I sometimes check on a thread when I see it reaches so many pages to see what people are talking about!!!

Bingo mincha by cereal and snack aisle doesn't really block aisle is in main aisle and you can get around them other way. The men's minyan is very quick. I believe any women davening mincha is taking way longer than a quick mens mincha!

Why would you think that? Minyan has a lot more to say.
