I'm currently applying to a school for my daughters.
On the application, they ask about all of your technological devices. I have a laptop that is filtered with a non-frum filter. I know that it probably won't be acceptable to them. So, do I write that I have no laptop at all? (anyone who knows me knows that I do a lot of online shopping and that I definitely have internet access. Lying will probably fall through.) Or, do I just name a Jewish filter company?
My main question is: Do the schools contact the Filter companies (Techloq, Gentech etc.) to verify that I have an account? Are the companies allowed to release this information?
What is the smartest way to approach this? (I don't want to be a naive parent that tells the honest truth and then regret it later...)

Put a filter on for now and say the truth. If you can’t handle it maybe you will take it off at a later time.

This. It seems a little crazy to outright lie and say you have a filter you don’t have.

I think it depends on the school.

When a school hires a company like Techloq, Gentech, they do give updates to the school about who has what device and what sort of filter.

If you want to send to a school that requires a Jewish filter, get a Jewish filter. Since when is lying acceptable behavior?

Say you don’t have a laptop. Online ordering can be done via kiosk. If you send it out with Dh for a day you technically don’t have it. Or Halacha wise it belongs to him so again, you don’t actually have one.

I usually just skip the laptop question. Lie of omission. As for filters I think they make you write down your ID number too.

Wait what?! The Filter companies can give out that information to schools? Can someone please explain to me how that's ok? I mean, I know I didn't sign a HIPAA agreement, but that seems like a big breach of privacy.

Generally you give them permission to confirm it with school. But they don’t have to keep the info private technically, they aren’t in a field that requires that privacy legally.

Yes, for my daughter's school I needed to get a certificate through the filtering company and submit it to my daughter's school.
