They wouldn't necessarily care on exact replacement cause that was really old model, but I want to replace with similar one. I also want to get a good sale price, but no clue what to look for. I can technically take to local store so they see what it is, and suggest similar but I'd rather get black Friday online deal. Can anyone guide me where to look on my broken lap top, for what to look to know what I'm looking at? Thanks!

How are we helping find similar if we don’t know what we are replacing?

We need to know size, intel or Ryzen.
Are you sure it's fully broken?
Many parts can be replaced or fixed.
What's wrong with it?

It will have a service tag/number on the sticker at the back, you will have to put that info on the hp service website to find out the intel info. Or you can ask your friend if she knows.
The size you should know if it's a regular size -15.6/16 inch or a slightly smaller 14inch or larger 17 inch.

Can the harddrive atleast be taken out so her stuff isn't lost?

Does it start up at all?

Usually you can go to "About my computer" or something like that and check the model number, RAM, etc.

Just keep in mind that most of the laptops that go on sale for Black Friday are very bad quality

The cheap ones are sometimes bad. Often, good ones are sold for less during BF

You ask the person what type of laptop it was.

I would think it needs to be replaced with equal value otherwise you can run into ribis problems, may be worth asking a Rov about

family member. If I ask they'll say don't replace. They know nothing about lap tops. It's from his boss. He keeps at work and no one uses it. But still want to give back something.

Is there no number starting with ST?
If you have an option of taking and uploading a photo of the label maybe we can find the number.

I have an HP envy which is brand new that I no longer need.
I think I paid in the $400-500 range. In NY. Is that something you are interested in?
It's now selling for over $700+ which is why I don't think I would sell it for a loss.
I bought it around 60 days ago and can show you the receipt.

Serial number tells something?
Product number?
PCID?

As another poster said, send a picture, or type up everything you see. Any type of name or number. Including any prefix

Why don't you pay them what they feel is fair and let them decide on which laptop to buy? I wouldn't appreciate someone choosing my laptop for me.

This. Especially since it was an old laptop, it may not be worthwhile to get a laptop in this price range, they may rather use it towards a better laptop in the future
