I haven’t owned a laptop in many years. I’m looking for a very basic laptop for light work. I’m a writer and just need something basic to work from. I would also use it to keep my files/bills private since my desktop basically became a family computer.

Any suggestions for something inexpensive (that won’t break down on me)?

Go to Best Buy and let them know what your needs are. They are very helpful. We needed something for kids to do hw on etc and they directed us to acer. Not expensive and very useful.

There's someone that sells laptops in Lakewood, last name is Homnick, he advertises in the BP all the time. (a smaller ad)
He sells new and refurbished, tell him what you're looking for, very nice to deal with, he'll try to find you the best option for you

TAG was able to filter my chromebook by putting a whitelist. This was a few years ago. they said that was the only way they can do it.

Thanks for all the ideas.
I ended up ordering a laptop (Lenovo) from amazon.
It seems that getting a simple Chromebook is the cheapest option but just in case I allow my kids to use it later on I would feel better knowing that it’s filtered.
The one I ordered is refurbished but there are good reviews and returns open for 3 months so hopefully it will be good. It’s really for light usage and there are reviews stating people used this laptop for writing/attaching school reports. I wanted this primarily for writing and emailing word documents so I’m hopeful.
I’ll update after it arrives.
