Intensely colored items should be washed alone or at least with similarly colored items that won't be affected by color bleed. "Integrate" your wash at your own risk.

I would *never* do it unless it's a new white cotton item being laundered with other white cotton items.
Colored items are usually full of superfluous color.

I generally try to wash them on their own but if not then I use a color catcher in the load.
