I want to reiterate that I have the highest respect for good, dedicated teachers who go above and beyond for their work. I'm not knocking teachers here. Not sure where that idea came from.

I'll repeat again, I don't have all the answers, but this is certainly a valid topic, as some teachers here have admitted themselves.

This comment is incredibly presumptuous and frequently untrue. One of the schools I taught at gave me a hard time at the beginning about being a teacher as a single girl. I ended up teaching for close to 10 years before I got married and still have incredible coworkers there who are not yet married. Had the school insisted on not hiring them they would have missed out on years and years of quality staff. There are no guarantees in life. Yeshivish, MO does not guarantee when people get married, how fast they’ll get pregnant or how they’ll feel and what kind of teacher they will be. It would be much better for schools to focus on hiring teachers who are passionate and dedicated as everything else is completely out of their control.

It wasn't a pregnancy issue. The school adopted a policy of getting the cheapest teachers. Teachers started straight from seminary with no experience, degree, or student teaching. They taught for a few years and than got a better job. Some didn't even plan on staying in teaching, it was just a meanwhile job till they got married and had to make money or got their degree in another field. Every year your teacher got married or had a baby. Lucky was the class who someone got an "older" single of 22!

Still not the teacher's fault. If the pregnant one quits, now you have a seminary girl again.

New teachers earn smaller salaries. Some schools hire only new teachers. Yes the children suffer.

Still not the girl's fault. I doubt there are enough girls like willing to work at this type of pay forever. And then you get the subs or the last minute hires who are even worse. (Except for the girls who lie and tell the school they want to teach and secretly are working on degree in computers, but think it looks better for Shidduchim. Those girls I do hold responsible.)

It's an administrative decision. And that's who's responsible. And that's where the change will or won't come from. One of the reasons I believe my school got so out of hand was because they have no competition and don't care about what the parents think.

And it's not a pregnancy issue at all. It's a staff turnover issue.

This is how the Christians do it. They have nuns teaching the children who are not allowed to marry or have children. I would think in our Frum schools we should be teaching our children to do differently, and that seeing a teacher go thru different life stages and still show up and do her job can actually be beneficial as opposed to a negative.

Huh? We only want teachers who want to stay single?

I’m a career teacher. Multiple degrees and all. I still have rough pregnancies (although I couldn’t have known that when I went to school for teaching) and have a bad year while sick every 3-4 years.
