There are Rabbis who hold it is not permitted to celebrate Thanksgiving. There are also others who permit it. But that's where the stigma comes from. There's a genuine halachik base for it.

But in the frum world it’s very common to have a bbq on Labor Day/ Memorial Day/ Presidents’ Day but then the second my kid mentions in class about having a turkey for Thanksgiving he’s told it’s avodah zarah

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I celebrate it every year. It’s a day that we stop and celebrate family and are thankful for everything we have (to Hashem, obviously)
I haven’t found that to be an issue yet, but I really don’t care what anyone says about it

Doesn’t bother me, but the reason some are against it is because it’s a religious holiday. And not the Jewish type of religious.

Some Lakewood schools actually give off because of busing issues.

Thanksgi is an American holiday, it's not a religious holiday.

It’s religious because they’re thanking G-d. Again this doesn’t bother me personally, but I know yeshivish people who are against celebrating for this reason.

I went to bais yaakov and my brother went to yeshiva. We both had off and we went to my cousins for dinner every year. When did everyone become so ridiculous. We appreciate having religious freedom and democracy which is what the day is about. My aunt's parents came to this country after the war on Thanksgiving so it was a big deal to him. He was 100% religious and appreciated America.

Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. It's giving thanks, that should be something we do too!

Not arguing with you, just repeating what I’ve heard from others as the reason they don’t celebrate.

Difference between not celebrating it and criticizing those who do celebrate it. I don’t get why people do this
