We ended up using his teacher from the previous year. We had asked other people and they all turned it down. This worked out nicely because he already had a kesher with him. But people told me the father, a family friend, a community speaker, etc are all good choices.

For us, the night event and Bo Bayom were same thing. It was only class, staff, and immediate family. We did not do a big party for friends/community other than the kiddish on shabbos in shul. but for sure people do

My son wrote his pshetel with an avreich he learns with at our local community kollel. They started their chavrusa the summer before 7th grade.
