If I get a lab grown or CZ for a daughter in law, do I have to tell her?

My coworker got a lab, found out after she was married and wasn’t upset. But I think most people would be upset.

Yes, and especially so because she will most probably find out

A cz, yes. Its not the same as a diamond. Doesn't hold value
Lab grown diamond, no. It's still a diamond and still valuable
If you want, you can offer her to get a smaller real diamond vs a larger lab grown diamond.

Cz and lab grown aren’t the same thing at all!!
But yea, you should still tell her about lab grown, and please do not get her a cz

Maybe she would be ok with a cz. I have a cz. Happily married 7 years. It's holding up nicely. I have gotten lots of beautiful real diamond jewelry pieces since. I don't feel compelled to change my diamond ring.

did you know it was a cz before you got it?
did you think you got a diamond and then you found out it was actually a cz?
I’m pretty sure you need to ask/tell in advance

This may be an actual halachic question of Geneivas Daas.

(Not going to share my opinion on diamonds and diamond rings in general)

A cz? Like from Target? Yes. Those cost $25. Please don't buy her a cz.
And yes, you need to tell her if it's a lab diamond.

You must! My SIL found out a year into the marriage and she was extremely upset. Now she can't have many positive feelings towards her MIL because she knows this and she sees all the ways that MIL is frugal even more now.

Op, if you have an unusual budget, please let dil know in advance and ask what she prefers within that budget. It might sound tacky but honestly it's better than her thinking you're dishonest.

A lab grown diamond is not $20. Please do your research. It's not plastic.

Many of dds freinds were offered a smaller real diamond or a larger lab diamond. The cost was similar (look it up, real diamonds are a bit cheaper now because the demand fell)

A real diamond has value for life. A lab diamond unfortunately has no resell value. Many girls are getting lab diamonds because they want a large stone.

The 20$ comment was about a cz, not lab.

Don't buy a cz. That's basically glass and has no shine or fire.

You can get beautiful lab for $350 a caret.

I feel you don't have to tell her but many disagree with me. I'll admit that most of my jewelry is lab so I see no issue with it.

Some people offer a very small natural diamond versus a larger lab diamond. I see why they do that but if ur like me and your budget is very limited, I think lab is always cheaper.

This is not unfortunate. It's fine. Most people don't sell their stones anyways. Even as a yerusha it's usually not sold.
Same chemical makeup...
BH they get larger and save some money!

OP you do have to tell your DIL

Where can you get a beautiful lab for $350? I've looking into lab grown and believe you can't find a solitaire 1 caret diamond for $350. Neither can you find a 2 caret eternity band for $700 nor a 3 caret one for $1050.

(At the end we bought a smaller diamond eternity band, due to quality).
