To the babysitter with a stomach virus?
Especially if your kid has diarrhea?

What if it takes over a week for the diarrhea to clear up and you need to go to work?

Thoughts?

Please please don’t. It’s not fair to the other kids. I understand you need to work but that’s part of having kids. Maybe try to see if a family member can take over for a day.

Unless you were specifically given clearance by your Dr.

Wanted to see what the popular opinion was. My close friends son was hospitalized bec a mom sent her son all week with a stomach bug and my friends son caught it and became very ill with it and was in the hosp for a couple days.
The mom who sent her son has no remorse and no regrets says it's not her fault and she would send again if this situation arose.

Depends. if it’s watery and kid has stomach pain or vomited in last 24 hours then a hard no. But if the consistency is just taking time to get back then maybe. Most stomach viruses take 24 hours but the effects can linger. Ask your doctor.

Ask the gan their policy.
I work in a gan and the policy is no runny diapers for at least 24 hours.
And if a kid has 3 runny diapers during the gan day, we send them home early.
Its contagious. Not fair to the rest of the gan.

No. A stomach bug is highly contagious

No, but side note, I find diarrhea resolves much much faster if you start adding probiotics to their food as soon as you see loose stools. Buy capsules or packets and empty one into a baby food, yogurt, or applesauce 2-3 times a day until they're back to normal for a few days.

When my children were in first third and 6th grade the whole family caught a stomach bug it was midwinter, when vacation is not allowed and other kids were out sick and the other half had colds. The school called me on the second day to find out why my kids were out. They told us it was not a good enough excuse to leave kids home. I felt forced to send them to school when they weren't quite ready.
